summary: taehyung likes hellos; jeongguk likes goodbyes.

taehyung likes hellos.

he likes beginnings and new faces and shared smiles during first meetings.

he likes sunrises, and every kind of weather, and the comforts brought with every season, the fresh breeze and blooming flowers of spring, the beating sun on the beach of a hot summer day, the multi-colored leaves coating the ground in autumn, and the twinkling snow falling from the sky on a beautiful winter night.

he likes the way everyone is constantly learning from their mistakes, because it always makes a person stronger, and the feeling that comes with change, where everything is exciting and adventures are just waiting to happen.

and most of all, he likes laughter. in his mind, laughter is the one key to happiness. no matter what is going on, taehyung always remembers to laugh so that he’ll never forget what it means to be happy.

jeongguk likes goodbyes.

he likes the sense of closure at the end of the day, when everything is finished and the sun sets and the world is blanketed in night, and being by himself so he can finally take down all his walls and let go of all the fake smiles he’s kept plastered on his face for far too long.

he likes when things stay the same, sticking to old friends, and keeping with tradition.

he likes knowing when and how to avoid certain situations, because nothing is worse than embarrassment, and nothing bothers him more than feeling like he’s not good enough, the way making a fool of himself always tears him apart.

he likes peace and quiet and staying at home in his room, where there’s no one to tell him to work harder, do better, give more, as if he’s not already trying his best.

and above all else, jeongguk likes hiding his emotions and keeping his heart locked away, so no one can truly know or understand him.

but there’s something about taehyung that unlocks him and chips away at his walls until there’s hardly anything left, that makes him feel light headed and puts a fuzzy feeling in his chest.

maybe it’s that lopsided grin or the way taehyung likes to lace his fingers perfectly between jeongguk’s, because he knows it always sets off butterflies in jeongguk’s stomach, or the way taehyung kisses him senseless just when he needs it most.

maybe it’s the way taehyung reminds jeongguk that there’s still good left in the world, that there’s still something worth living for, a reason to laugh, and a reason to love.

maybe it’s the days taehyung takes jeongguk out and shows him everything that’s right in front of him yet he’s never seen before: the flowers peeking out of the cracks in the sidewalk, the sun’s rays floating over the tops of buildings, the clouds billowing across blue skies.

in the end, jeongguk really doesn’t know why, but when he’s with taehyung, he swallows his goodbyes and those five letters slip off his tongue as if he was always meant to say them.

“hello.”
