summary: this is what happens when i'm thinking about pokemon too much and then try to write my otp...
there’s nothing better than a day off spent at a nice cafe when the weather’s just started getting chilly and jeongguk can finally break out his warm jacket and his special scarf and sit nice and cozy while he sips at his favorite seasonal pumpkin spice latte. it’s an indescribably comfortable feeling, like the feeling he gets when he visits his family after weeks and weeks of missing them, and it’s probably the reason why jeongguk loves fall so much.
he walks back to the dorm slowly, kicking at the colorful leaves on the ground as he goes, and enjoys the way the brisk air makes him want to tug his jacket tighter around himself. when he finally arrives, having taken extra long just so he can spend more time outside, he kicks his shoes off by the door. “namjoon hyung, seokjin hyung, taetae hyung, i’m back!” he calls out.
there’s no response. jeongguk raises an eyebrow but figures they must have gone out as well, after all, it’s the perfect day for an outing, and really, he doesn’t mind because he thinks he’ll probably just put some music on and take a nice long nap.
that is, until he reaches the living room.
he freezes mid step, eyes following the strange arrangement of couch cushions laid out along the floor, one of which is topped with seokjin’s alpaca, another with one of the kumas probably taken from jimin’s stash, and a third with a floppy old pikachu doll that belongs to taehyung. there’s a pile of blankets in the middle of the cushions and jeongguk catches a flash of black hair underneath them.
it’s then that he belatedly realizes a movie is playing on the tv screen across from the mess. he glances up just in time to see a familiar character run across the frame, two colorful orbs in his hands as he runs over to a stone pedestal following his small yellow companion. jeongguk rolls his eyes as the blankets stand up and a head pops out.
“and thus, the earth shall turn to taehyung,” the head says, a determined look on his face as he stares at the screen.
“um,” jeongguk interrupts. “i’m pretty sure the world turns to ash, not taehyung.”
“shut up, the world turns to taehyung,” comes the muffled reply as taehyung buries himself in his blankets again. he reappears a moment later with three apples.
catching jeongguk’s gaze, he tosses one of the apples over and jeongguk blinks at it in confusion, opening his mouth to question the older boy, but before he can say anything, he’s shushed.
“i’ve already succeeded over fire island and lightning island. all that’s left is ice island.” the movie plays out the sequence of ash combining forces with team rocket and setting off toward said island. jeongguk resists the urge to roll his eyes again and watches as taehyung shifts to face him.
“the mighty articuno is fierce,” taehyung narrows his eyes at the kuma on the cushion nearest to jeongguk. “but it’s no challenge for pokemon master taehyung!” the older boy suddenly runs forward and snatches the apple back out of jeongguk’s hands. he trips on his way back to the middle of the cushions and jeongguk finds himself glad that taehyung is so thoroughly protected by his mass of blankets, otherwise he probably would have fallen flat on his face.
in the next second, taehyung is back up and placing the three apples on the ground in front of the tv. “see? of course the world would turn to taehyung. i’m much faster than ash.”
“hyung,” jeongguk says. “are you really serious right now.” taehyung turns back to him with a pout pulling his lips downward. he doesn’t say anything, though, and then goes back to the movie. ash is making his way back with the orb from ice island and the guardian of the sea, lugia, flies beside him to help. jeongguk always thought lugia was pretty cool. he moves closer to taehyung and sits down on the cushion next to the black haired boy.
he sees taehyung look at him out of the corner of his eye and then abruptly he’s being attacked by blankets as taehyung jumps on him. “a wild lugia has appeared! pokemon master taehyung will stop it!”
“yah,” jeongguk laughs, trying to stand up to avoid being caught by taehyung, but it’s already too late as his legs tangle with the other boy’s and he falls over. “don’t you know lugia’s a good guy? why are you trying to catch him?” he’s smothered in blankets while taehyung continues his attacks.
“no pokemon is any match for pokemon master taehyung!” comes the response, and the two of them continue to struggle.
just as jeongguk thinks he’s getting free, he feels arms wrapping around his waist and taehyung is suddenly so close that jeongguk doesn’t even need to be able to see him under the darkness of the blankets because taehyung’s breath is hot against his cheek.
they both stop moving, one of taehyung’s legs positioned between jeongguk’s and jeongguk’s hands pressed against taehyung’s hips. the only sound is the movie playing in the background. “h-hyung,” jeongguk mumbles, feeling his cheeks flush slightly. but instead of replying, taehyung leans in and kisses jeongguk. he’s sweet, tastes like those chocolate candies jeongguk saw him eating earlier, and his mouth fits perfectly against jeongguk’s. it’s been a while since they last kissed, mostly because they’ve been busy, but also because jeongguk would always get embarrassed, would shy away when taehyung tried to make a move. but now, in the dark, he kisses taehyung back hungrily, nips at his bottom lip and savors the way taehyung’s tongue drags across his bottom lip.
neither of them hears the front door open, or the footsteps filing into the living room.
it isn’t until seokjin’s voice sounds that the two of them break apart. “you two better not be doing what i think you’re doing,” the eldest member says, and jeongguk shoves taehyung so violently off of him that the black haired boy falls backwards and squishes seokjin’s alpaca, taking all the blankets with him.
“we’re not!” he exclaims, although he’s pretty sure from the knowing expression on seokjin’s face that his lie is obvious.
“what in the hell is going on in here?” namjoon peeks into the living room, dropping a bag of groceries on the floor with wide eyes. “it looks like a tornado came through the room.”
“we’re saving the world.” taehyung’s back up, dropping his blankets around jeongguk again and against jeongguk’s protests, he pulls him back over to the tv screen. “pokemon master taehyung is much more powerful than ash.”
jeongguk tries to wrestle himself out of taehyung’s grasp to no avail and he finally gives in. he thinks his face is probably bright red at this point.
namjoon shakes his head and leaves the room with his groceries.
“you guys better pick this mess up when you’re done, ok?” seokjin says. “i want to come back and not be able to tell either of you was in here in the first place.” all he gets is a nod from taehyung as jeongguk shrinks into the blankets, and then he follows namjoon out.
in the movie, the girl has finished playing lugia’s song and the world has been saved. “see? i could have gotten things done much faster than ash, no doubt about it,” taehyung says. “the world would have been saved approximately 10 minutes earlier if the world had turned to taehyung.”
“i don’t think so,” jeongguk says, averting his gaze when taehyung glares at him. “you would get too distracted while kissing me, and then the world would end and that wouldn’t be good. it’s probably better the world turned to ash, don’t you think?” when taehyung doesn’t say anything, he adds, “plus, while ash is saving the world, that means you can just keep kissing me and i think that’s definitely better.”
a smile starts to pull on taehyung’s lips, though he tries to fight it. “hm,” he grumbles. “you’re probably right. i do think i would prefer kissing you to saving the world anyway.”
as the ending credits begin to play, the movie goes forgotten.
