The celebration for my friend's daughter was today. She was dressed up in a very pretty dress and had her hair and makeup done for her. Her mother had put together a ceremony blessing her, "may you always taste the sweet that life has to offer (gives her taste of honey)," "may you be strong when the bitter things come (places a grain of course salt ( Read more... )

that is so inspiring. I should do something like that when my daughter gets to that point.

I do talk to my daughter about that stuff now (she's 6) so she knows that she is going to have her period when she is a little older. She calls it "the Bleeding"... gonna have to come up with a better name for it. I have been calling it "Aunt Flow" for a few years but even that is kinda silly.

I do talk about periods in a good way, not dread. The only 'negative' thing is the moodiness I get the week prior. Sarah is aware of it and if I am cranky she tries to baby me. I told her that I am not upset at her or her brother etc.

I do wish my mom would have talked to me about it other than saying "well, do you want a pad?" (DUH. What do you think?)

I'm glad the party was so nice! What a nice touch to have the ladies share their lineage. It gives a more positive spin to menstruation and childbirth, and gives people a sense of who they are because they know about their family.

My school had given us some information on menstruation and stuff. My mom had told me I was soon going to menstruate and told me a little bit what to expect. No kidding, I got a drink, went to the bathroom, and there it was. I think Mom suspected it was time. Daddy was actually the one to give me the more detailed talk.
