I never make public posts in this thing anymore, but if you're interested in reading two of my editorials from the paper in recent weeks, here they are:
There’s nothing wrong with treating a child to the occasional expensive toy or outfit. It becomes a problem when these “treats” become the norm, at the expense of the family’s credit rating.
It's a damn shame how many middle-class households are making good money, but are still walking the edge because they have to uphold the American lifestyle. It kills me to hear two-parent households with maybe two kids making almost a hundred grand a year talk about struggling. Struggling! Like you don't have the mobility to move to a cheaper area and another job and downsize your budget. Your kid does not need fifty million game consoles.
And Kamenetz's is a damned fool. How are you supposed to pick up a job in your target field with only fast food gigs on your resume? Is there a special bank where you can cash in your degree and your dream career that Kamenetz's know about and isn't telling because I sure as hell don't?
I would like to know about this special bank, myself. Then, I could just be lazy for a few years and cash it in whenever I felt like it. Too bad life doesn't work this way :(
HA I think its funny that Im reading this right after I posted to you that I want a video iPod :X But I am not a child, so I guess its different. IM A SPOILED ADULT DAMMIT.
my unpaid internship was not particularly fun at all. ... the people sure were nice though. they gave me a going away cake and a portfolio case for graduation and the pres even opened the petty cash to give me $ to buy myself a bagel sandwich for my birthday. didn't actually give me ajob though, which would have been more helpful in the long run. but the cake was yummy.
