A couple months ago, me and Mike decided to get new computer speakers. We got some Logitech 4.1 system from Best Buy, not really great but whatever. Less than a month later, one of the channels in the subwoofer blows so we take it back and exchange it for a different model. Maybe a month and a half later, both rear channels blow. So okay, we ( Read more... )

almost all speakers geared toward computer use are utter crap...

on that note m-audio puts out some rather high quality products...

I agree, but it's tough finding good speakers that are properly shielded, too. With everybody using LCDs nowadays this is becoming less and less of an issue, however. (Though I guess technically it could screw up your hard drive too...)

The idea was to get some cheap, functional ones, I knew they were crap when I bought them. I still didn't expect them to die once a month.

paying a little more for computer speakers really works out... although personally i just ended up routing my pc sound through my a/v receiver...

it wouldn't be your sound card that killed them... the only possibility would be either the power or just poor design...

spending $120 on a decent pair is really the only logical choice if you want to have a dedicated set of computer speakers...
in the past i have had logitech, creative, cambridge soudworks, altec lansing, harmon kardon, and others...

all of them are poor quality...

i suggest either jbl or m-audio...
a friend of mine has the jbl creature speakers and they seem pretty well made...

the one's i don't suggest are bose and klipsch... both are overpriced and overrated brands that are mainly going on name alone from past home theater products... all their stuff produced in the last ten years is ridiculously low build quality anyway...

Bad power could certainly be doing it. Are you sure the battery in your UPS is still good? They wear out after a while.

Chances are pretty good that it's not your soundcard, though, unless it's really messed up somehow. I've never heard of such a thing happening in the past.

It is an old UPS, maybe it is the power. Though it hasn't destroyed any of the other electronics (recently).
