CHARACTER NAME: Yomiko Readman
FANDOM: Read or Die
AGE: 25
Teacher: European Lit
HISTORY:
Yomiko was born in Japan to a Japanese mother and English father. Her life was pretty normal other than the fact that both of her parents were huge readers, filling their house with lots of books. She herself grew up to love reading and also collected a massive amount of books. As a teenager she signed up to study abroad in Europe, and when she graduated high school she went to college in England, she majored in English lit and library science, though has mostly only held temp jobs as a substitute teacher.
In College she met someone she greatly admired, and could call the love of her life, but something happened. She doesn't like to talk about it much, and avoids giving details even when asked. She has few things of that person now, one of which is the glasses she wears. She's very protective of them due to this and will not let anyone else touch them.
Personality:
Yomiko is a shy introvert with a huge appetite for reading. She will read anything anywhere, and is happiest reading. She opens up the most when talking about books, especially books she has greatly enjoyed. She respects writers as very important people. She's very kind and tries to think of the best of people. For example, even when someone has done something horrible to her, she will try and think of the best things about them still, making up excuses to explain what they did.
Strengths:
Yomiko is not very strong physically, but she has strong willpower. When she has decided to do something she will do it, though she may not seem overly adamant about it, she will still persist until she either gets it, or there is nothing at all she can do about it.
Weaknesses:
Books, she values books over her own life, and has a weakness for trying to read things at awkward times. She is also a bit spacey and absent minded. She forgets to comb her hair, prepare food, and other things not related to books. Her glasses are also a weakness, she won't let anyone touch them and is very protective of them.
FIRST PERSON:
Today I went to the used bookstore to see if they had anything new. Mr. Johnson was very helpful! A person came in the other day with a box of antique books, there was an original print copy of The Marvelous Land of Oz! The lithographs were in perfect shape too! He said he had set it aside for me, so I could look at it when I came in. It cost about a month’s wages, but I'm so very happy, I will treasure it always.
THIRD PERSON:
Yomiko was sitting at a table, a pile of books beside her almost burying her from site. She paged through the book in her hand with a large smile on her face. She had been there since morning, she had only planned to stay a little bit, after all she had classes to teach. But... well, it couldn't be that late right? No, she was only on... on... which book was she on again?
"OH NO!" she cried out jumping to her feet knocking over a pile of books to her right.
She looked franticly from side to side and spotted the wall clock, it was already 2:30, how... she had missed nearly the entire day! Oh no... she would surly get a scolding for it, or maybe a pay cut? She couldn't afford that! She had already spent it....
She looked down at her feet feeling very embarrassed, she wasn't a very good teacher was she? To skip most her classes like that.... Well, she still had things she could make up! And, and she would apologize to her students tomorrow!
"I'll bring them a reading assignment of my favorite period author," she said with a nod to herself. Yes, surely that would make everything okay.
