Yoseob stepped out of the alleyway with a heavy heart. His head inclined slightly to the right, eyes automatically locking onto the back of a spiky haired teenager. He watched the other boy walk further and further away, until the other turned a corner and disappeared completely from view. He sighed. The urge to run after the taller boy - to wrap his arms around him - to tell him to stay - was strong. But he repressed them and forced his feet to start walking in the opposite direction.

After all, he had no right. This was wrong. It was a mistake that never should’ve gotten this far.

Even knowing this, he couldn’t stop. Not when he came to him with those hungry eyes, teasing touches, and whispered lies. Lies Yoseob shouldn’t believe.

But he does.

And it hurts more and more, every time he walks away from him.

Away from him and back to her.

The pain in his chest, the guilt gnawing at his conscience, the self-loathing - he brought this upon himself.

He wouldn’t feel them if he wasn’t sleeping with someone who has a girlfriend already.

What was he doing?

So lost in his thoughts, Yoseob didn’t notice the other person exiting the store until they collided. A groan escaped his lips as he picked himself up. Apologetic words were already spilling out automatically.

“No, it’s fine. I should’ve paid attention to where I was going,” the person he bumped into said.

Yoseob shook his head. “Really, I’m sor - ” the rest of his words died in his throat. He stared at the boy he bumped into.

Did he hit his head when he fell? Was this a dream? He blinked a few times to make sure he wasn’t hallucinating.

He wasn’t.

Suddenly a rush of memories assaulted his mind.

“D-Daniel?” his voice cracked.

Surprise flickered over the face of the brunette in front of him. “Do I know you?”

Yoseob felt like someone punched him. He doesn’t remember him? How could this be? Maybe he was mistaken. But he looks exactly like him…

“Are you…Chae Daniel?” The other boy’s eyes widened. Then he nodded.

“How did you know my - ” His words were cut off by a sudden punch to his shoulder. The guy named Daniel stumbled back, clutching his shoulder.

“What the fuck?!” he shouted angrily in English.

Yoseob didn’t give him a chance to recover before launching himself at the now stunned boy. He wrapped his arms tightly around him and buried his face in the crook of the other’s neck.

“You…y-you…insensitive jerk! How could you forget me?!”

Taken aback, Daniel untangled himself from the blond boy and held him at arm’s length. Yoseob glared at him as his face was being scrutinized. “I swear to God, if you don’t remember me, I’m going to - ”

“Hyung?” Yoseob watched as recognition flickered in his friend’s eyes. Then they widened. “Yoseob-hyung?”

Relief flooded Yoseob’s body when the other boy finally recognized him.

Then he punched his other shoulder.

“I can’t believe you forgot me.”

Daniel smiled wryly at his hyung’s grumbling. “I can’t believe you punched me. Twice. This is dongsaeng abuse you know.”

Yoseob glared at him. “You deserved it,” he said, turning away to pack up the first aid kit.

“When did you get so violent hyung?” Daniel asked as he threw his shirt back on.

Yoseob huffed in annoyance. After putting the first aid kit back in the bathroom, he returned to his room with his arms crossed across his chest and went to lean against his bookshelf. “What are you doing here anyways? Aren’t you supposed to be in America?”

“Am I not allowed to come back?”

“How long are you staying?”

“Trying to get rid of me already?”

Yoseob narrowed his eyes at the brunette sitting on the edge of his bed and smiling innocently at him. Then he sighed. Daniel grinned.

“I’m back.”

“Huh?”

“I’m back,” said Daniel. “I moved back here.”

Yoseob froze. “…seriously?”

Daniel smiled softly and reached out to pull Yoseob forward until he was standing in between his legs. “Yeah, seriously.”

Yoseob was stunned speechless. He couldn’t believe it. After all these years, was he really getting his best friend back?

“Hyung?” Daniel shook the hands he was holding when Yoseob didn’t say anything.

Then suddenly, Yoseob jerked his hands back and scrambled a few steps back. He caught a flash of hurt on his friend’s face but chose to ignore it.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” he demanded, as an unexplainable anger surged within him.

Daniel looked hesitantly at Yoseob. “I wanted to surprise you,” he said, then grinning boyishly. “So…surprise?”

Yoseob hit his shoulder. (“Ow hyung!”) Then crossed his arms. The corner of his lips twitched but he refused to smile.

The anger in him was leaving as quickly as it came. Damn the younger boy and his smile. After all these years and he still wasn’t immune to it.

“I hate you.”

Daniel’s grin widened. "I know." He pulled Yoseob close once again, letting his hands rest on the older boy’s hips.

“You’re a jerk.”

“I’m sorry.”

“First you leave without telling me and then you come back without telling me too. Who do you take me for?”

“I won’t do it again.”

“You better not.”

Daniel buried his face in Yoseob’s middle as his arms encircled the still standing boy.

“I missed you,” he murmured.

Yoseob uncrossed his arms and winded them around Daniel’s shoulders.

“I missed you too.”
