I'm a HUGE Asimov fan and I've been reading a lot of Charles Stross. Iron Sunrise and Singularity Sky are one set that take place in the same world. Another set is Accelerando and Glasshouse (the latter I finished last night and really liked). I'm currently reading Halting State, and it looks promising so far. His settings range from near future to very far future (sometimes in the same book) and the tech, characters and politics are all very engaging.

the funny thing is...I KNEW you would be right on this request first =) perhaps followed by Jester, maybe.

Thank you so much for the recommendations. My Aunt is the one who took me to see EVERY Star Wars movie when I was a kid and she is just super awesome, so I want to send her some good stuff to read.

THANKS A TON!!!!!!!!! YOU ROCK!!!!!!

I am also an Asimov addict.

She may enjoy Dan Simmons

Right now I am reading The Diamond Age or, A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer by Neil Stephenson.

Of course, the book I am reading is not "new" literature, but may be new to her...

We got the Diamond Age on mp3 and listened to it all the way across the country, it was wonderful (well, not so much the sound quality as the book itself)

I think you missed the point of the post. Also, I'm glad you're reading Foundation. :D

Browse for some Stanislaw Lem. Definitely one of the greatest science fiction writer ever. Calling his work science fiction alone may be a bit narrow. The man wrote about religion, psychology, the whole bundle. Not star wars, but definitely in the direction of Asimov.

The trick though is finding a good translation, Lem books apparently being hard to translate. People seem to swear by Michael Kandel's translations, I have read no other translations.

I can heartily suggest "Enders Game" by Orson Scott Card, as well as its sequels. If she's looking with some meat on its bones by Azimov, then the Foundation series would be right up her alley. Star Wars books are terrible, never read a good one so I avoid those. Also I can suggest anything by Dan Simmons, partcularly the Hyperion saga.

If you want to make her cry, make her read: The Sparrow by Susan Dunman. One of the best reads of my life. Can't believe it was wrote by a chick.
