"Jung YoonJi... Hey wasn't Yunho's last name Jung?" Jaejoong asked. Yoochun nodded and looked over Jaejoong's confused face.
"What's wrong?"
"Yunho's family member might be really sick. He said something about the serious cases being on that floor."
Yoochun smacked Jaejoong's shoulder, "Yah! Why do you even care? We only need to work there for five months. We don't need to get attached."
Jaejoong rubbed his shoulder and sighed. He was right, why did he have to care so much?
"You're right. After all this you wanna switch SooMan's files with Mr. Hong's?" Yoochun smiled evilly and looked at Jaejoong.
"Jae, you are one evil genius! Isn't Hong a closet perv?"
Jaejong snapped his finger and smirked.
"Exactly." Yoochun slung his arm around Jaejoong's shoulder and they both laughed their way home.
Jaejoong walked into his house and all eight of his sisters waved goodnight to Yoochun outside. Of course Yoochun waved back for politeness. Hey, his sisters can cook even better than Jaejoong, he needs those points for food.
Yoochun dreaded going back to his home. The only thing dragging him towards that hell hole is only because of his baby brother.
Yoochun lived with his mother, father, and baby brother Yoohwan. His father was a drunk and his mother never cared for the both of them. Yoochun was ready to leave that household, but he was held back. If he left, his brother would be left alone with a drunken father with anger issues, and a mistreating mother.
Yoochun just couldn't leave a helpless nine year old alone with them.
He peered in through the window to see his father passed out on the couch and his mother screaming at Yoohwan. Yoochun quickly entered the house and walked into the room where his brother was. He heard yelling obviously from his mother and small whimpers from Yoohwan.
"Why did I give birth to such a useless child like you? You're just a mistake in my life!" Yoochun barged in and picked up his crying brother.
"Shh... It's all right. I'm here. Don't cry." He carried Yoohwan into the kitchen and set him on the countertop.
"Did you walk home today?" A nod answered Yoochun.
"Next time just wait at school and I'll pick you up. I'll take you home." Another nod. Yoochun took out a carving knife and an apple and started to peel the skin. He pulled out pieces of bread and he smeared honey and peanut butter onto them.
"Here, did they give you lunch or dinner?" Yoohwan shook his head. He reached over and grabbed an apple slice, but Mrs. Park's had smacked his hand away.
"Why are you wasting our food?" She screeched. Yoochun stopped peeling and gripped the knife hard.
"Is it wasting if your son isn't eating?" He said with anger filling his voice. His mother growled and glared at Yoohwan, who trembled at the sight of the raging woman.
"What son? I don't have a son as useless as him! I don't have a mute for a son!"
Yoochun glared harshly and slammed the knife on the counter making Yoohwan jump a little.
"And maybe he doesn't want a b***h for a mother!" He grabbed the plate holding the sandwiches and held Yoohwan's hand and pulled him into their shared room.
Yoochun placed the plate on the bed and Yoohwan sat there waiting for his brother to say something. He looked over and saw his brother gazing at him with sad eyes.
"Hey, if you're hungry then eat. You don't need to wait for me." Yoohwan jumped off the bed and opened Yoochun's hand. He looked down and saw a sandwich in his hand. Yoohwan smiled and nudged his hand closer. He motioned for Yoochun to eat.
He smiled and took a small bite. Yoohwan smiled and took large bites of his sandwich. Soon he fell asleep. Yoochun changed him and pulled him close to his body.
Yoohwan had his own room, he knew, but he could never trust that crazy woman. He felt his brother's shoulder twitching. He looked over and saw him crying. Yoohwan held Yoochun's hand and he felt him tracing words on his palm.
I'm sorry that I'm a nuisance.
Yoochun wiped the tears falling from his brother's eyes.
"Never think that. I'm your brother. I'll always be there. Don't worry we'll get out of here soon enough. We'll leave and I'll make all the peanut butter honey sandwiches you want." Yoochun smiled when he felt Yoohwan hug him tightly.
Yoohwan was a bright kid. He was always smiling and talking to his hyung. Then one day, when the crazy lady beat him over and over again with things, he just stayed quiet. He didn't want to speak again. Yoochun came too late and found him curled up in a ball covered with wires, water, and pillow feathers.
Yoochun covered his eyes with his forearm and sighed. Then sleep pricked at his eyes and soon he fell asleep with his brother next to him.
**
In the morning pokes and prods were finding their way onto Yoochun's stomach. Yoochun squinted and sat up rubbing the sleep from his eyes. Yoohwan held up a piece of paper in front of Yoochun's face.
Hyung! You're going to be late for school!
Yoochun jumped out of bed and rushed around getting his clothes on.
"Yoohwan ah! Are you... Ready." Yoochun finished the sentence with a smile when he saw his brother already dressed for school.
Yoohwan held up Yoochun's school bag and smiled, showing off one of his missing teeth. Yoochun laughed at the sight and pushed Yoohwan out onto the balcony. Yoohwan grabbed the rope ladder and climbed down before his brother.
Yoochun threw his bag down to Yoohwan before jumping off the balcony.
"Let's go." Yoohwan nodded and the both of them went to school. Yoochun dropping off his brother first and handing money for lunch.
He walked over to Jaejoong's house and waited for him to come out. Thirty minutes later Jaejoong came out with two lunchboxes.
He handed one to Yoochun and smiled.
"Eldest nuna wanted to give you this. She thought you might need it today." Yoochun smiled gratefully.
**
At the end of class Yoochun and Jaejoong were walking to the hospital. When they arrived they signed in and waited for their guide. After and hour Jaejoong stood up.
"I think I know where he is. I'll go find him." Yoochun nodded.
"I'll go with you." Jaejong smiled.
"Good, 'cause I don't think I rememeber how to get to the third floor." Yoochun sighed and pet Jaejoong's head.
"C'mon let's go.
Yoochun found the way to the third floor and found the room with Junsu. Yoochun looked at the lunchbox Jaejoong gave him. It had some leftovers. He wondered if Junsu ate already.
"Hey, you go on ahead. I'll be there sooner or later." Jaejoong nodded and left Yoochun alone in front of Junsu's door. Yoochun held his hand over the doorknob, hesitating.
Just then Junsu opened the door and smiled.
"Hello! Who are you?" Junsu jumped up and down.
"Yay! A new friend! Do you wanna come in?" Before Yoochun could muster up a word, he was pulled in and the door was closed behind him. He watched Junsu pull out random toys and throw them onto his bed.
"My favorite animals are bunnies and dolphins! What are yours?"
Yoochun coughed into his hands before answering, "Uh... Ducks..." Junsu giggled and held his finger laced over his smiling mouth.
He can't remember his own age, his family, or even a face for more than a day.
Yoochun walked over to Junsu and turned him around.
"Junsu, how old are you?" Junsu tapped his chin a couple times before holding up all ten fingers.
"This many!" Yoochun nodded. He pulled out the lunchbox and handed it to the boy.
"Here, my friend's sister made this for me. I had some leftovers." Junsu quickly opened up the box and smiled widely.
"Oh thank you, thank you!" Junsu placed a kimbap in his mouth and he chewed cutely. He clapped his hands and giggled.
"This is really good! Thanks mister!" Yoochun forgot that Junsu didn't remember him from yesterday.
"The name's Yoochun."
"Oh, okay! Thank you Chunnie!" Yoochun tilted his head.
"Chunnie?"
"Yeah, Yoochun is so long and boring... I made up Chunnie for you!... You don't like it?"
Yoochun shook his head, "No it's fine. Only you can call me Chunnie though all right?" Yoochun felt weird talking to a boy his age like how a mother would speak to her kid.
Junsu gasped and covered his mouth with his hands.
"You mean like a... Secret?! I love secrets! Like one time Junho hyung broke Mom's really expensive vase and he told me to keep it a secret and Mom was like 'Who did this?' and we were like 'We don't know!' It was really funny." Junsu said all this with kimbap in his mouth, spitting some rice in Yoochun's direction occasionally.
"Hey, you remembered your family!" Yoochun almost jumped up. Junsu tilted his head.
"Of course! Why wouldn't I?"
"Well, I thought you couldn't because-"
"Because you thought of my sickness?..." Yoochun stayed silent but he nodded his head. Junsu sighed and gave Yoochun the now empty box.
"Maybe I'm remembering stuff because you're here, Chunnie..." Yoochun smiled a little, but quickly wiped the emotion from his face.
"Thanks for the meal! I hope to see you tomorrow!" Yoochun looked at Junsu. Junsu just smiled sweetly and sat on his bed. He crawled under the covers and laid his head on the pillow.
Yoochun nodded and walked over to the door ready to leave.
"I'll bring some more food for you tomorrow if you want some." Junsu clapped and squealed a high-pitched, "Yes!" Yoochun chuckled and opened the door.
"Chunnie..."
Yoochun stopped and looked over his shoulder.
"Today was really fun! I'll never forget you! Love you Chunnie!" Junsu snuggled into the covers and fell asleep. Yoochun didn't know how to respond so he just said a quiet, "Okay." before closing the door.
Yoochun put a hand on his chest and let out the breth he was holding in. He could still hear the words ringing in his ears.
Maybe it's because you're here, Chunnie. I'll never forget you! Love you Chunnie!
Yoochun shook his head. Maybe he felt this way because he thought of Junsu as a little brother.
Yeah, only as a brother. He reminds me of a little kid...
Yoochun looked around on the third floor until he heard the familiar voice of Jaejoong. He looked at the door before knocking. Yunho opened the door and smiled.
"Hey Yoochun. Here for Jae?" Yoochun raised an eyebrow and looked at Jaejoong.
"Jae? You let him call you Jae? I thought I was the only one allowed to call you that." Jaejoong shrugged and smiled at Yunho. Who in return smiled back. Yoochun just felt creeped out.
"Oppa? Who's that?" A small voice called from behind Jaejoong.
Yunho smiled and introduced Yoochun.
"This is my sister, YoonJi."
