Very sexy there, isn't she? I was struck by how long her legs are - I guess the stilettoes help. She just radiated confidence up there: she looked real good and she knew it. : )
'Me-Jane' was a particular treat, as was 'Meet Ze Monsta' - she was stomping around like a fluorescent cheerleader with a whistle in her mouth.
If you check out the website link up there they've just announced a handful of US and Canada dates. My sense of American geography is terrible but perhaps there's a date close to Louisana there...?
She's certainly on fire at the moment; it'd be an excellent time to try. : )
Man, I love you, Stuart. You and I are so alike with out out & out reverence to musicians and their performances. Reading this piece, I felt like I was there with you - through the giggling during "Down by the Water" and the sweat-inducing heat. Brilliant write-up.
The set looks phenomenal, too. What a great smattering of songs (though I would have loved to see "The Desperate Kingdom of Love" "Horses In My Dreams" and "Plants & Rags". I saw her ten years ago on the To Bring You My Love tour... but she was playing at a festival and the sounds was terrible. I did enjoy watching her prowl the stage in her bright fuscia onesy, caterwauling and spitting like a dying furnace. She has a commanding presence, that's for sure.
Glad you had a blast. Glad, also, that you got a maraca. :o)
Heheh, thanks! This gig was one I was never going to miss because she's a longstanding heroine of mine. I had to get as much down as I could in order to remember it. Man, my head just would not switch off once I tried to go to bed!
The maraca looks like it's been spiked on something or other - two large holes clean through each side. It is a very cool memento: it would've only got thrown away by the cleaners a couple of hours later anyway!
There was such a buzz going on between her and the band there's no wonder they went for a heavy guitar-laden set. Those guys were larger than life characters in themselves, which I think worked well because they helped to counterbalance Polly's unmistakable presence. I would've loved to have heard all of those tracks too. As they had two drumkits O Stella wouldn't have gone amiss either, and I'd like to see her sing Water again, one of my all time favourites from the old days.
