Character Info
Character Name: Rodolphus Lestrange
Nickname (s): You might get away alive with 'Rod' if you have known him since childhood, but I would not suggest trying it otherwise.
Age: 46 [at game start Mid-October 1998]
Birthday: 31 October, 1951
Wand type: Firm 11" Yew Wood with Dragon Heartstring won in a duel shortly after his escape from Azkaban. His original wand had been a 10-1/2" Reed Wood with Phoenix Feather, taken when he was imprisioned.
House in School: Slytherin
Bloodline: Pureblood
Political View: Protectionist
Purebloods are meant to be the ruling class. Anarchy suits him just fine, though. He prefers to be left alone to prey on whomever he wishes and take whatever he wants.
Appearance
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 170 pounds
Build: Toned, but sleek, not bulky.
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Black, shot through with silver. Kept short, because long hair reminds him of Azkaban.
Dress style: Trouser suits and tailored shirts under traditional wizard's outer robes.
Discerning Marks: Fading Dark Mark
General: Elegant, cold and creepy. He likes to look good and takes care of himself.
Played By: George Clooney
Psychology
Introvert/Extrovert: Sociopath
Boggart: Himself dressed in Azkaban rags and disgustingly filthy.
Patronus: Rodolphus can cast a patronus, but he does so by thinking happy thoughts about those he's tortured. The resulting form is a
pogrebin, which has little effect on Dementors.
Animagus form: None
Fears/phobias Getting dirty, being returned to Azkaban, or having to deal with filthy surroundings.
Goals/Dreams: Being able to walk about without risking capture and being free to terrorize others at will.
Likes/Dislikes: Likes getting what he wants, when he wants it. Enjoys terrorizing others for fun and profit. Dislikes being dirty, muggles, blood traitors, and anything that stands in his way of getting what he wants, when he wants it.
Personality: Deliciously evil.
Rodolphus is elegant, but so cold he is creepy. He is completely amoral and cannot even fathom what it would be like to have a conscience. He is intelligent and often picks up on patterns other people miss, making him an excellent strategist. He likes plotting and scheming even more than executing his plans, which makes him remarkably patient for a sociopath.
Rodolphus misses his Bellatrix, whom he saw as much as a pet as he did a wife. Her delight in physical torture was an excellent counterpoint to his preference for causing mental anguish. He is aroused by people's fear of him, but he refuses to sully himself by acting on that arousal. He would be likely to stalk Andromeda Tonks from a distance because of her resemblance to Bellatrix.
Rodolphus doesn't want to rule, it's too much trouble in his opinion, but he would help someone gain power who would allow him free reign to walk about without fearing capture and would not stop him from acquiring what he wants. His main means of supporting himself is by taking from others. He will use the Imperious Curse, blackmail, psychological torture or any other means available to obtain what it is he desires.
Rodolphus is extremely fastidious, to the point of being compulsive. Azkaban was a nightmare of epic proportions for him, as he was unable to bathe and groom regularly. He often rubs his thumb against his fingers or rubs his hands together to clean them.
Council Approved Gamerule Exemption: Rodolphus is capable of casting a weak wandless cleaning spell through his rubbing.
Sexuality: Straight, at least as far as he knows. Rodolphus is a sadist who is aroused by the suffering of others, particularly mental anguish caused by him. The gender of the victim is really inconsequential to Rodolphus, who prefers not to sully himself by touching other people.
Turn ons: Mental torture and the anguish of others.
Turn offs: Dirty surroundings, poor hygiene, muggles and muggle dress.
Marital/Relationship status: Widow
Feelings on sex: Rodolphus scoffs at the idea of his preferences being classified as feelings.
Rodolphus and Bellatrix had both been pure their first time together. He willingly encouraged his wife to service the Dark Lord sexually upon request, both to keep the Lestranges in favor, and because it gave him reason to have her atone for it after.
Rodolphus has never had intercourse with anyone other than Bella, but he has on rare occasion charmed a worthy pureblood women into using her mouth on him. He never, ever reciprocates by providing the woman pleasure in return, unless of course she derives pleasure from the verbal torture he provides during and after the fellatio. He deems very few people worthy enough to touch him or be touched by him.
Rodolphus' most common form of sexual release is ejaculating by remembering the look of anguish on the faces of the victims of his mental tortures. He is extremely careful only to do that where he can immediately clean himself. The gender of his victim in these rememberances is not important, however he does prefer memories of Bellatrix, and victims with at least a passing resemblance to her, for this sexual activity.
Family
Parents: Revelin Lestrange (deceased) and Morgana Burke Lestrange (deceased)
Siblings: Rabastan Lestrange (younger brother)
Spouse:
Bellatrix Black Lestrange (deceased), whom he often called "my Amazon star" (another name for the star Bellatrix in the Orion constellation).
Extended family as relevant: Narcissa Malfoy (sister-in-law), Draco Malfoy (nephew through marriage), Andromeda Tonks (unrecognized sister-in-law)
Family dynamics: Rodolphus poisoned his parents the summer after he left Hogwarts to inherit early. They were fine parents, giving him excellent traditional pureblood values and encouraging his match with Bellatrix Black, but had outlived their usefulness. The poison mimicked the effect of eating tainted shell fish, which of course had also been served to make it all quite realistic. Rodolphus had been sorry he had to make Bellatrix ill to reinforce the subterfuge.
Rodolphus assumed responsibility for his younger brother and gives the appearance of a caring brother. As long as Rabastan does not outlive his usefulness, Rodolphus is happy to maintain that appearance. He doubts that Rabastan suspected he was involved in their parents' deaths any more than Magical Law Enforcement did. The brothers get along well enough in Rodolphus' opinion.
Rodolphus saw Bellatrix more as a pet than a partner, and he definitely used her for his own purposes, but did love her in a his own way. He continues to think of her often and even 'talks' to her on occasion.
Lifestyle
Occupation: Surely you don't suggest he actually find employment, do you? Death Eater at large.
Residence: Lestrange Hall, which is unplottable and hidden under a Fidelius Charm cast by Voldemort. Rodolphus is the secret keeper. Aside from Rodolphus, the only people alive who currently know its location are Rabastan and the Malfoys. The home is in the Peaks District in the North of England.
Financial Status: Rodolphus and Bellatrix Lestrange's vaults were on the lower levels of Gringott's and were among those destroyed in the dragon escape. Even if he could access their vaults, it isn't as if he could simply walk into Gringott's without alerting the Aurors. Currently, he is obtaining funds, food, and other necessities -- most of which would be considered luxuries by reasonable people -- by taking from others.
History from student days at Hogwarts to the present time:
1963-1970 -- Attended Hogwarts
August 1970 -- Married Bellatrix Black. The couple never wanted mewling brats around, although they did intend to eventually have one child to inherit and continue their bloodlines.
September 1970 -- Poisoned his parents. He wanted to inherit early, as he never had any desire to take a real job, but likes the good life. Murder was never suspected.
June 1971 -- Readily joined Lord Voldemort, whom his father attended school with and admired, as a Death Eater. Offered up his wife for service as well. Rodolphus found he had a taste for the power rush of frightening and controlling others. Encouraged Bella's fawning over Voldemort to keep the Lestranges in a position of favor.
1971-1981 -- Active Death Eater and advocate for pureblood supremacy.
November 1981 -- Captured by Aurors along with Bella, Rabastan and Barty Crouch, Jr. while torturing the Longbottoms for information regarding the where abouts of Lord Voldemort.
December 1981 -- Tried and sentenced to life imprisonment in Azkaban for the torture of Frank and Alice Longbottom.
December 1981-January 1996 -- Incarcerated in Azkaban.
January 1996 -- Part of a mass breakout of the Dark Lord's followers from Azkaban. Rodolphus emerged from the 14 years of confinement starved, gaunt and nervous, but willing returned to the Dark Lord's service.
June 1996 -- Alluded capture in the Department of Mysteries.
June 1996-May 1998 -- Active Death Eater. Rodolphus relished frightening people and was known for his particularly strong Imperious Curse.
May 1998 -- Alluded capture again after the second defeat of Lord Voldemort.
1998-Present -- Death Eater at large, surviving primarily by preying off others.
How does he/she feel about...
Voldemorts Defeat: A pity. Rodolphus was enjoying the brief period of not having to worry about being captured while pillaging and terrorizing, that he had while Voldemort had control of the Ministry.
Death Eaters on the run: A bigger pity. Hiding out becomes so tedious and he really would like access to his Gringott's vault again.
Kingsley Shacklebolt still holding the Minister's office: Please. The man is entirely too noble and absolutely no fun at all.
Malfoy and Goyle being pardoned: Delicious. Rodolphus certainly would not mind casting a few Imperios if it would benefit him to benefit them. He is also pleased because the Malfoys always set an excellent table and his dinner invitations have been somewhat lacking lately.
Dark Arts in general: His birthright. Honestly, why should he ignore a part of his rich, pureblood heritage simply because a few weaklings think Dark Arts are wrong? Anything that helps Rodolphus get what he wants, and do what he wants, is something to be supported.
Any specific plots/plans for your character? Any specific characters you would like them to interact with? And specific plots you are interested in? Nasty, sinister plots with multiple players and lots of scheming with characters who have received a pardon and/or other Death Eaters at large would be grand.
I'd also adore the opportunity to have Rodolphus terrorize other characters from time to time. This could be anyone, male or female, on the light side or the dark. Rodolphus could likely find a reason to cause some sort of mental anguish, even if it's only for his own personal amusement.
Rodolphus would be particularly interested in a long term, creepy, stalking-from-a-distance plot involving Andromeda Tonks, because of her resemblence to Bellatrix. He wouldn't mind stalking other characters that fit the 'tall, dark beauty' mold.
I am very much open to ideas and willing to brainstorm, so feel free to ping or email me. Please keep in mind that Rodolphus is not a pleasant character. He is completely amoral and contemptuous of nearly everything. This does not reflect my personal opinion about the relative worth of other players' characters. Nor does it mean I condone mental torture or promote sociopathic behaviors. As Rodolphus' writer, I really enjoy being able to plot and play, but firmly desire to maintain his evil characterization in game. I would appreciate plotting and playing with other authors who are willing to allow my character to be his evil, disturbing self without taking it personally.
Any other details about your character that don't seem to fall into a specific category? Not now, but I'm sure I'll think of something I forgot along the way.
