Finally have jumped onto the Twitter and Tumblr bandwagons, mostly at prodding by friends D=

Twitter @melbourne_shaI really havn't figured out the hashtag thing yet, and mostly just post the stupid things I've said, or stupid/amusing things that people have said to me. Really, sometimes my spoken English can be a bit strange...which is concerning ( Read more... )

...and it gives me something more to procrastinate with, when I'm actually supposed to be making up lessons plans for an assignment...
And that is pretty much my main reason in a nutshell why I never bothered to sign up for Tumblr as well. That, and I still Do Not Understand how Tumblr works. ;>_> But then I'm more interested in having nice conversations then reblogging the same pictures over and over again, so I guess Tumblr is not made for me to begin with. Anyway, have fun? :)

The lectures for my other subject, which is all about social contexts, are, on the other hand, actually kind of depressing, because education, despite intentions to the contrary, in the end seems to reinforce socio-economic status, rather than being the means to improve that status.
That sounds really depressing indeed. Is it because of university fees or the better schools/universities etc. only being available to People With Connections (And Money) or are there other major factors as well?

Yea, I avoided Tumblr for ages because it seemed to be people just reposting other peoples stuff, and it just confused me, but it seems to be a good way to post just pictures.

With the education thing, it not even necessarily that(though it probably is true to an extent, since I'm pretty sure people who pay the fees upfront get in before commonwealth supported students, but I'm pretty sure the university itself is not going to admit that in its lectures), but also the mindset and values of people in low socioeconomic areas, and schools in those areas not really supporting pathways into higher education, trades and employment as well. It's a society thing as well I think, not just an education issue...bleh, education is one of those things that everyone has an opinion on(since everyone has gone to school, sends their children to school etc), but in reality, there are so many diverse issues and difficulties, it's really hard to know where to begin fixing it, and the solutions just aren't as easy as some people think they are.
