Why Can't We Love? (Chapter 6)
When you see the one you love ignore you is the most painful thing…Yeah too much pain.
Kei is trying his best to talk to Kota to get more attention from him but it is so hard because Kota is like a stone he always shows unreadable expression on his face he didn’t talk to Kei even a single word since that day.
Kei feels so emptiness he stared at the back of the older who sit in front of him. He had no idea how to win the older heart again. It’s his fault, if he says he love him in the first place thing will not complicated like this.
“ Kou-chan let’s eat lunch together. ” Kei walked to Kota’s seat and called him with his childhood name. Kota looked up to the younger he glared at him not saying anything. He stood up from his seat then walked pass Kei without utter a word. Kei still stand there not move a single move, he feel his eyes started to get teary because of the older coldness.. Kei wipe his tears away from his eyes.
“ You must be strong Kei. It’s just a little pain if you compare to him. Please bear with it ne. ” Kei said and smiled bitterly to himself.

Time passed by, the competition finally came. Kei is sitting in a room for competitors. He looked at other student who busy practicing. He sighs then looked at Kota who sitting in the other corner room. Since Kota stop talking to him they never practice not even one. He doesn’t know if they still can win the competition. When he was spacing out someone tapped his shoulder. Kei jolted in surprise he looked up saw his teacher.
“ Yabu-kun come here. ” She called Kota and pointed her finger to outside the door.
“ And you too Inoo-kun. ” After she finished her sentence she walked out from the room. Kei and Kota follow her to outside.
“ What’s wrong sensei? ” Kota asked annoying after they get outside the room.
“ I’m so busy with school work and I’m having a hard time to check you two. How’s your practice? ” She asked. They remind silent upon hearing that question.
“ I want to say that your previous practice is almost perfect! ” She said and smile widely to them. “ But still I want to watch you two play again. ” She paused then continued, “ It’s still have 2 hours left before the competition start so let practice for me to see again. ” She said as she looked at her wrist watch.
“ You want? ” Kei asked.
“ Yeah! ” She smiled cheerfully.

Once they reached the music room she immediately pushes Kei to sit in front of piano and give guitar to Kota.
“ Aright, let’s start! ”She said and clapped her hands in her seat. Kei and Kota started to play the music that they compose together.
“ Stop! Stop! ” Their teacher suddenly shouted in the middle part. They paused then looked at their teacher with a question mark on their face.
“ What music are you playing just now? ” She asked as she looked at Kei and Kota.
“ What’s wrong? ” Kei asked softly.
“ You ask me what’s wrong? Didn’t I tell you that when you play music you must put your feeling in it! And what’s now? You two play like a zombie! ” She said and stood up from her seat.
“ Gomen. ” Kei said softly as he bowed his head.
“ Yabu! Say something! You’re the president of music club how come you play that kind of music huh! Where is harmony? This music is totally dissonance! ” She looked at Kota who looked at somewhere don’t even bother to listen to her.
“ Sorry sensei I can’t play this music anymore. ” Kota said without look at his teacher.
“ What?! I don’t want to hear ‘I can’t’ from you Yabu! What’s wrong with you two again? ”
“ Anou..sensei we still have time let me talk with him. ” Kei stand up and looked at his teacher.
She took a deep breath then said, “ Alright! I hope you will not let this school down. Don’t let me disappoint with you again. ” She said then walked out Kei looked at her till her disappear from the room then he turned his head to Kota. He walked slowly to the older who sit on a chair staring at outside through a window in the room.
“ Kota. ” He called him.
“ Kota!! ” He said a bit yelled. Kota turns to him and looked at him.
“ I know you’re mad at me but please don’t mix our problem with school ne? ”
“ Is that all you want to say? ” He lifts his eyebrow then stand up from his chair. “ I want to go now. ” He said then walked pass Kei but Kei quickly grab his hand to stop.
“ Kota why can’t you understand? ”
“ I understand what I am doing you don’t have to tell me. ”
“ Kota don’t be like this! This is our school big event if we still like this how can we win the competition? ”
“ You have no right to command me. ” Kota said as he glared at Kei.
“ I didn’t command you but I’m begging you Kota! ” Kei said and looked at Kota’s eyes. Those eyes no more gentle there is only coldness to him.
“ Can I go now? ” He said as he pulled his hand back.
“ Can we go back to before Kota? ” Kei said with pleading eyes.
“ What? ” He said and smiled sarcastically. “ I stop bothering you I stop chasing after you isn’t this is what you want Inoo? ”
“ No I d-- ”
“ You want me to play this music with my feeling? Do you think I can? My feeling is already died Inoo. ” He said and looked into Kei’s eyes. Kei bite his lips tried to hold back his tears. “ But don’t worry I won’t let this school down. ” After finished his sentence he walked straight to the door.
“ I love you Kota! ” When Kota was about to open the door Kei suddenly shouted and that make the older paused, holding the door knob. He stands there not turning back.
“ I love you please stop ignoring me. ” Kei said as he began to sob.
“ Don’t you think it’s too late? Don’t play with my feeling Kei Inoo. ” Kota turns his head to Kei a bit then open the door walked out.

Kei went to restroom he washes his face with cool water then look at himself in the big mirror.
“ The feeling of being rejected. ” He said to himself as he moved his hand stop on his left chest. Tears start to fall from his corner eyes. “ I’m not playing with your feeling Kota. ” Kei whispered. He stayed there almost haft an hour he decided to go back to the competitor’s room to prepare himself.
“ Where have you been? The competition will start soon come here and sit. ” Once he step inside the room his teacher suddenly popped up in front of him and dragged him sit on a chair.
“ Inoo-kun. Sorry that I was yelling at you a while ago. You’re a smart student Inoo-kun and Yabu-kun too. You know guitar and piano these two instruments doesn’t get along well like other but you two can play it almost perfect. The good harmonization that you created I know you can do it promise me ne? ” Kei keep silent he doesn’t want to promise something that he can’t. He looked at Kota who also looked at him. They made eyes contract about 30 seconds then Kota broke it. Kei turn his head to his teacher. How come they can create a good harmonization when they actually broke apart?
“ Alright it’s your turn now. ” She said after hearing the host mention their name. Kei stood up together with Kota.
“ Ganbatte! I know you two can do it. ” She said and pats the two shoulders lightly. They just give her a slightly nodded. Kei walked to the stage behind Kota. He stared at the older back. His heart is beating faster his hands are freezing. He never feels nervous like this in his entire life. He afraid he can’t do his best once he do something he always confident with himself but now not anymore.
Kei sat in front of piano he looked at Kota then he presses his fingers gently on the keys. Kota starts to play his guitar as well.
Kei looked at his fingers that run to the left, the right on the ivory keys. The music that full of their memories, their laugh, their smile how he wish he could go back to that time. He want his gentleness back not his coldness. He wanted him to stay by his side he doesn’t want to stand alone. Once his thinking about the scene he being rejected a while ago he heart is aching again. He feels something wet drop on the keys and then he realize that it was his tears. Another tear drop follow by another tear he just can’t hold back his pain anymore. Everyone that watching them is surprised when they see Kei is crying in the middle part. Kota looked at Kei while playing his guitar. He doesn’t know why he thought that he has been recovered but why now he is still feeling pain in his chest?
The sadness melody floats over the hall. The sound of piano and guitar collide together create a perfect harmony. It makes people who listening to the music can feel the pain from the players. Kei presses on the last note then looked up to Kota who is sitting in front of him he then quickly wipe his wet cheeks. After done finish their song the audience immediately clapped their hands. Both of them stand up and bowed to them then turn back to stand at the corner stage together with other competitors who just come out. Since their pair is the last one so all they need to do is waiting for result to come out.
“ Everyone is great na~ How do you feel? ” The host asked other paring while waiting for the result from the judges. Kei stand beside Kota he slowly moved his hand to the older and then hold it hoping that he won’t push away. Kota turns to look at him he let the younger hold his hand but he didn’t hold his hands back even though his heart is wanting.
“ Alright! The result is finally out! ” The host said excitedly while holding a thin paper in his hand.
“ It seems it is so hard to choose na.. But there is one paring that really touched the judge’s heart. ” He paused about 2 minutes. Kei is squeezing Kota’s hand. He doesn’t want to lose.
“ Congratulation to Yabu Kota and Inoo Kei from Heisei Academy!!! ”

“ I know you can do it!!! ” Once they get back to the back stage their teacher hurriedly jump to hug them. “ Yabu-kun you’re still the best president of music club! ” She said to Kota after she broke the hug. “ But Inoo-kun why are you crying? Am I said something that hurt you? ” She turns her head to Kei. It’s not you but him..
“ Nothing sensei. Isn’t this good? We win the competition for our school like what you want already ne. ” Kei avoid her question then force a smile to her.
“ Yeah! I’m so happy! Let’s have a party tonight!! I pay yo!! ” Their teacher said and jumps excitedly.
“ Tonight? ” Kota and Kei asked in unison.
“ Uhh! ”

8:30 PM
A loud music that hit your heart to faster speed, people are freely dancing, the multi color lights run all over the place that makes your headache.
“ Sensei are you serious? ” Kei try to ask his teacher through a loud music.
“ I haven’t been here so long time already let’s enjoy tonight yeah! ” She said and dragged Kei and Kota to sit on the couch.
“ Sensei I never expect you have that side. ” Kei said he never expect his teacher will drag them to this kind of place.
“ What do you mean this kid? ” She chuckled. “ I just 26 years old not 62 I still want to play yo! ” She said as she called the waiter order some wine.
“ Let’s drink cheer!! ” She exclaimed cheerfully. After a while suddenly a guy appears.
“ Minami sorry for the late. ” That guy apologized to their teacher as he sits beside her.
“ Ahh you come. Inoo-kun, Yabu-kun this is my fiancée. ” She smiles as she introduces that guy to them.
“ Nice to meet you I--- ” That guy smiles at them.
“ Now let’s go to dance. ” She didn’t even let him finish his sentence she hurriedly drag her fiancée to the dance floor. Kei jaw drop because of his teacher’s reaction he accidently spill some water on his cloth
“ Ahh!! ” He exclaimed quickly took some tissue wipe his shirt. “ Err.. I think I should go to restroom. ” Kei told Kota he didn’t expect to get any reply from him. He sighs then stands up walk to restroom. After he done cleaning his shirt he walk out about to go back to his seat. He doesn’t like atmosphere in nightclub there is so quite here it make him feel unsafe. When he step out from restroom a few steps a good looking guy suddenly block his way. Kei try to walk to other direction but that guy still blocking him.
“ Hey! What’s wrong? Why are you blocking my way? ” Kei asked impatiently and looked at that drunken guy.
“ You make me feel horny. ” That guy said as he pushes Kei to the wall.
“ Eh? ” Kei’s eyes open wide upon hearing his statement. That guy starts to kiss his neck. Kei is jolted in surprise.
“ Let’s go of me!!! ” Kei shouted as he trying to pushes that guy away, but it’s no use. The guy started to caress his skin. Kei is trying to kick and slap him but The guy suddenly punches him on his stomach that make him groan in pain he couldn't even utter a single word.
He’s trying to open his eyes. He’s happy when he saw Kota walks across them. Kota is standing there watching them with his smug face. He thought that Kota will come to save him, but unexpected things happened. Kota turned his head back and walked away heartlessly. He looked at the back of the older that started to disappear from his sight. His tears fall down non-stop. He stop struggled he let that guy do whatever he want to do. His heart is aching more than he can say. The person who always protects him is now walking away from him like a stranger, he lets him in danger.
