I seemed to have angered a water demon

1) There's been a water drip above my desk at work for... years? At least long enough to remove all the varnish and warp the wood on one corner of the desk. Unfortunately, until recently the drip has only been active when I wasn't there to catch it, and it's very hard to fix a leak when you can't see where it's coming from (particularly in a ( Read more... )

Apparently said demon has migrated East, in the last month or so. Previous to that...someone was carrying a ladder in one of our main hallways, and knocked the head off a sprinkler along the ceiling (which, sadly, did not have a pre-release system), rendering that hallway unusable (still).

...about three days later, someone thought it'd be a good idea to go welding in one of our data centers (which should have been a capital offense, in and of itself), and managed to set off the sprinkler head less than a foot away from where he was working (surprise!). According to witnesses, while said worker was being blasted in the face with (apparently quite brackish) water, he somehow had the presence of mind to grab a ceiling tile, and deflect the deluge away from our racks of computer equipment (specifically, saving one of my servers).

With any luck, the demon will catch news of the hurricane(s) further east, and find itself out in the Atlantic very soon...

! That is pretty dreadful. Were there any causalities in the data center?
We seem to have the great good fortune to escape with very few permanent problems (the power source did not survive submersion).

I'm told there were a bank of modems which may never again speak to the outside world. That might actually have been a favor...

Eeep! It sounds vicious AND mobile, a rather chilling combination. I don't know if it will be comforting, or if it will sound like bragging, if I report no known similar issues in northeastern Wisconsin in recent history. It's good to be alert and on my guard though!
