I have a lot of reason to be thankful-- I ALMOST got a splash of molten metal in my face Christmas Eve! I was messing around and melting silver with a MAAP torch like I had done countless times before, only before I had done it in the summer. How dare you avoid that rogue gobbet of hot metal! It was your responsibility to interpose yourself between it and whatever else it might be about to hit -- just think, it might otherwise have hit Kuma!

Recriminations aside, I'm surprised that there's a significant difference in the reactions between silver hitting a mould that's (roughly speaking) 2,000 or 2,040 degrees colder than itself.

I actually made another mistake-- I normally heat up the mold even a little by having the tourch right above it when I pour but this time I had the crucible no where near the mold. So the difference might as been as much as 100 degrees, it's hard to say.

I'm just glad my handsome face wasn't injured!
