The day before Seth left for Fox River, his attorney came to visit him and gave him advice that was crucial. She told him that a boy like him would be picked out by other men in prison. That they would be hurt him, and rape him, and treat him like their belonging.

She told him that she hated to say it, but that someone that looked like him would be picked out by somebody with power. She said that he looked weak and scared and to most men in prison, very attractive. Because of that, men with more power would want him.

Her advice was to be invisible. To stand next to the guards at turn out, to sit near the guards during meals, and to not speak to anybody. He was supposed to try to make himself look as unattractive as he could. Try to walk tall, and strong, and proud, but not cocky.

When Seth got to prison, he wanted to be a stranger. He wanted nobody to know who he was, and not to know who anybody else was. He tried to follow his lawyer’s advice.

Unfortunately, T-Bag’s men had their eye on him as soon as they saw him. They knew he’d be something that T-Bag would like. Seth didn’t even have time to start trying to be invisible before he was T-Bag’s bitch.

As soon as Seth started holding T-Bag’s pocket, he became someone to everyone in the prison. Everybody assumed that he was like T-Bag’s last bitch. Of course, Seth didn’t even know who T-Bag’s last bitch was, but nobody cared.

The blacks hated him, the whites hated him, the Spanish and Mexican and the Indian hated him. Everyone hated him. Although every other inmate was a stranger to Seth, he was a stranger to no one.

A few of the inmates knew that Seth wasn’t what everyone else thought he was. Those who didn’t hate him pitied him, and Seth was the kind of person who preferred to be pitied than to be hated. That’s why he asked Michael for help, because he could tell that Michael pitied him and wanted to help him.

Seth knew how smart Michael was, too, because T-Bag kept it no secret to Seth at night that he was gonna get out of prison soon and it was all thanks to Pretty. T-Bag knew that he could tell Seth anything because Seth had no one to tell it to.

When Seth learned that T-Bag held power over almost the whole prison in one way or another, he knew that it was the end. That there was no escape. There was only one way for Seth to escape T-Bag, and that was through death. Seth escaped.
