Nationally the crisis in the Middle East is a way bigger story than Dagenais, considering thousands of Canadians are trying to get out of Lebanon. And Israel and Hezbollah trading bombs is a big deal....considering Lebanon has finally started recovering from a civil war that ravaged that country...and this just sets them back.
Those are just my thoughts. Dagenais' important, but nationally, not as much as this.
My thoughts are this is a war that's been going on forever... literally and Canadians who go there are their on their own accord. And as for national coverage... I believe Mayerthorpe got none stop... so whats the difference?
It's too complicated to say the war has been going on forever. That simplifies it way too much. Israel hasn't been bombing Beirut forever anyways. It doesn't matter if Canadians are there are on their own accord. They're still trapped there. That doesn't make it any less dangerous.
My colleague next to me is surprised you don't think there's much coverage, b/c when he spoke to the editor of the Edmonton Sun, he said they've had it on their front page since it happened, and that's not here. It's getting lots of play obviously in SK, and the national keeps it on the radar. While we're all affected indirectly by Mounties dying, more people are directly affected by Lebanon.

We were at the lake all last week and got the Star Phoenix everyday. I think there just wasn't much to report until he turned himself in. Once that happened, they could get start reporting on the more human side of the story...funerals & grief which, sad to say, isn't as fascinating to people as "killer at large". Glad to see you blogging again! Keep it up! It's the only way we seem to know what's going on with you two!
