Ilaria, dear girl, icons are a HUGE part of fandom. Like fics, they're an extension of the show and they give us a snapshot reminder of why we're here.

We all get busy and sometimes we need to step back or do what makes us happy. If icons make you happy, then by all means make as many as your heart desires. Fandom can never have too many pictures of qaf.

If making icons makes you happy then I'm happy for you. You are an artist and it really shows in your icon creations.

It's hard being an artist to NOT get consumed by your work - it's your passion and what drives you. You do pretty work and you're very talented. I'm so glad you share it with all of us. You can have both your art and your friends. Both require time time and effort. Since you're feeling disconnected, maybe it's time to reconnect.

Seriously though, you should do what makes you feel good. Sometimes people want to be left alone for a while, it's normal. Photoshop is really addictive, and the more you use it, the more you want to use it. Last Summer I had mine opened 24/7, even if it was just to look at it. Nowadays I must block it in order to do all my faculty work. PS is a very jealous lover, that it is.

Bottom line is, I may have become a good icon-maker, but in the process I also became an AWFUL friend.

I don't think this is true, but if you're feeling really bad about it, you can always try to set aside a specific time for fandom stuff, like an hour or so to read your flist and answer to comments.

You're not an awful friend. I know exactly how you feel - I'm always torn between interacting with my flist or writing stuff for them to read. There simply isn't enough time to do both. And one or the other will be ignored.

The icon you posted with is one of your most gorgeous yet. So vibrant! I love the color choices.

Finally, I was thinking about your picspams the other day. You know what I miss about them? Your commentary. You were funny and unexpected and I appreciate that. Also, I loved the ones where you drew yourself in them.
