Haha, I was thinking of that time when Buffy'd told that guy whom she'd had a crush on in S2 that she listened to it all the time in fifth grade or something while moping about the fact that he didn't want her, and I'm all UM. THIS IS A DAWN THING RE: SPIKE OKAY.
ahaha, and Willow's all "OH THAT'S WHAT THAT SONG MEANS?" That scene helped me out so much later in life when I actually heard the song and could - with much superiority - explain to all my friends what it meant.
I've never actually written btvs fic before, but OH GOD, I MAY HAVE TO WRITE THIS.
Hahaha, yeah, and I'd actually heard the version that was sung by a church choir on some youtube video, and wow, ironic much? BtVS got away with a lot, now that conversation would probably be censored on most teen shows, hee. Willow's reaction was adorable and the best basically :D

this is unrepentantly dorky fluff.

"Dawn, I'm going patrolling," Buffy yells obnoxiously from downstairs, like she hasn't done the same thing almost every night for over five years and Dawn's supposed to be surprised about it or something.
"Okay," Dawn calls back, not caring if Buffy hears her or not.
"Willow and Tara will be over to watch you in a few minutes."
"Okay," Dawn yells again, rolling her eyes.
"Don't open the door for anyone else." Buffy keeps yelling. She really can't take a hint. "Dawn?"
"Okay!"
Once Buffy's gone - finally - Dawn flips the TV on and switches to the channel she likes. Since no one else is home, though, this isn't as enjoyable as it would normally be. With no older sister to complain about the lameness of Dawn's shows and be forced to sit through them, they kind of lose their edge and she gets bored in about a minute or so

"Right," she replies, still feeling totally stupid and simultaneously kind of giddy. "Do you want to come in, anyway?" She hangs on the door and gives him what she hopes is a casual smile

OH MY GOD, I HAVE ONLY BEEN WAITING FOR THIS SINCE FOREVER AND I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M SEEING THIS AT LIKE 4:00 AM. I shall be back tomorrow to fully appreciate the awesomeness, basically.

OH GOOD I AM SO GLAD THAT YOU LIKED IT. AND ALSO THAT YOU LEFT ONE OF THE MOST WONDERFUL COMMENTS I HAVE EVER SEEN, EVER.
ahaha, I was going to make it slightly more sexual, but then I was watching early S5 eps with little Michelle Trachtenberg in them and I realized I CANNOT WRITE DAWNIE PORN, OMG.
OKAY, LET'S GET THIS OUT OF THE WAY: I LOVE DAWN. Which is a major btvs fandom faux pas, I know, but it's because at the time when I was initially into Buffy (it was a thing in my family since I was six years old, but I didn't watch the whole show through until I was 12) I WAS DAWN. I could not only identify with her, but as I got older, I could sort of look at her and see the hilarity and the obnoxiousness of being the 'whiny younger sibling,' and it really did a lot for helping me grow out of it - and to this day I find her INCREDIBLY ENDEARING. I don't see how anyone with a sister can not relate to the Buffy/Dawn relationship, especially the 'AND I HATE YOU AND YOUR STUPID STUPIDNESS' childish fighting part of it.
