Room 220 | Wednesday Afternoon

It was a relief having the more insane of his three classes concluded for the summer. Griff still felt far from Awesome, a pretty terrible cook, and not very likely to bypass life's quirks, but he felt like he could totally drive a car now ( Read more... )

Suffice to say, he probably wasn't expecting a kitten to pad into his room. Especially not a black kitten with a sapphire and silver-flower collar and bright blue eyes.

Upon seeing him, she let out a truly annoyed sounding little meow before heading to climb up on the bed.

"Just wander on in," Griff eyed the kitten thoughtfully, still holding his book up to continue reading. "Fair warning, I have no kibble or treats so you're better off with your owner."

How a kitten managed to convey an eyeroll is anyone's guess, but she clawed her way carefully up his bed cover and padded to look him right in the face.

Boything, those little blue eyes seemed to say, you are smart enough to get this. Come on now.

It seemed his reading would have to wait so he put his book aside and held out a hand. "You know, staring is generally considered rude." Though, there was something about those eyes that felt familiar.

Alex still felt remarkably alert considering he hadn't yet slept. That didn't mean he wasn't sucking down coffee when he came into the room and gave Griff a nod.

Griff waved back, the tiny black kitten on his chest opening her eyes and glaring at being disturbed. It was possible she didn't like the company. "Hey, you're not allergic to cats, are you?"

"Not as far as I know," Alex said, focusing on the cat now. "You get a pet while I was out?"

"Sort of," he thought it a safe answer. "She wandered in and decided she likes me. I think I'll keep her." He petted a hand over the kitten's dark fur and she stayed where she was, her eyes still staring warily.

Sookie was just passing by when she peeked into the room out of curiosity, as she often did with open doors, and spied something that looked suspiciously like a trashy vampire romance novel.

"What're you readin'?" she asked, leaning in the doorway. She'd introduce herself to the boy in a second -- right now, she wanted to see if it was one of those books Griff had mentioned the other night. Maybe these were an entirely different series of trashy vampire romance novels!

Oh look, it was the friendly, neighborhood vampire girl, who was no longer a vampire and definitely had no stake sticking at an odd angle from her back.

"Hey Sookie," Griff greeted, sitting up. "Uh, this would be that terrible series I was telling you about," he replied, forgetting that he'd been with breasts the first time they'd met in this town. "Can't seem to stop reading them."

She frowned a little, and then connected the dots. "Oh! Griff? This is what you look like as a boy?"

"...YES!" It took him a moment, sorry. "I think repression is really working this week."

"Griiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiff," Claudia whined from the doorway. "I'm booooooooored."

There was no avoiding laughing at that sort of entrance. "Did you try making order out of your shoes to entertain?"

"I don't like order," Claudia declared. "It's too confining, omigod. But I did try to sketch them, and then paint them, and then stick glitter on a pair I don't love that much and then I realized I had only wasted, like, an hour."

"And you were hoping I could be more entertaining that the application of glitter?" He didn't think it possible. Though the wall along his bed was plastered with his own drawings of people, places, and random things from his own bored times.
