It's a stupid stupid institution.

I could raise my hand and say "Hey! I almost enlisted in the airforce last year." Or I could not, and just say that the airforce is a government institution which, not only bombs foreign countries at the President's behest, but is also one of the foremost aeronautical and aerospace research institutions in the country. It's also a recruiting ground for the FBI and NSA.
