Deadly.

Come on Mr. Shore, don't tell me you don't sit back in a courtroom and absolutely marvel at what we've created? at the literal scales that encompass what we do for a living?

When I'm in court, Mr. Dent, I rarely have time to admire the scenery. Besides, Denny's usually gnawing on it.

Take a moment the next time you're in the hot seat. Take a moment and appreciate that without law? We'd be deciding everything by...by trial by combat.

And I don't know about you, but I don't think I'd look to good in a suit of armor with a sword, nickname nonwithstanding.

I've heard some stories about Mr. Crane...

It sounds terribly idealistic, but...sometimes you have to have an ideal to believe in.

There are facts, there is reality, but when you put yourself above it there's no limit to what you can accomplish.

No, no. I wasn't being sarcastic. I mean, I believe in that too.

I just... I guess it's cool that you do, too, Mr. Dent. Er, DA Dent?

....It's rare to see kids who feel that way. At least in my experience. Then again Gotham City teenagers are a special breed.

Yes.
[ooc: And that will be his downfall]

If a man kills another man for a loaf of bread and you let him off you're saying to the world that we're still base, still animals. I think we should try to be better then that.

*considers* I suppose I'm an optimist. I consider it proof that we have the potential to see our mistakes and possibly rectify them. It's proof that the law can be tailored to fit an individual's worldview. It is an everything-

But it's not The everything. am I making sense?

I agree with you in terms of the basic structure, but individual laws are sometimes wrong. Deeply wrong.

Proof that the law can be changed when people realize their mistakes. Individual laws might need to be changed, what's...what's cool is that we can recognize the ability to change them. When to compromise and when not to compromise. If you find the single basic morality thread that governs all life, things like, don't kill etc. etc- You can make laws based around that.

The system's damn near close to perfect but we're not.
