Eternal Sunshine

Well, I've seen Eternal Sunshine. It was pretty good, although the first couple of minutes were very confusing. Then it slowly all made sense. It WAS sorta depresive and in that atmosphere, Carrey's comical gestures looked tragicomic. And some of the movie was quite grotesque, which made me sad (and I don't like being sad :) I must shamefully admit ( Read more... )

Depressive? Really? It always makes me happy when I watch it. Sure it's not "they lived happily ever after" but if you wanted an ending like that then you would have gone to see A Cinderella Story *shudders at the thought of watching that movie*. I don't think it's depressing - I think it's real. It's not a fake, idealised world.
And what was grotesque?

The blurred faces of everyone in his dream, and the characters in the actual movie. They weren't real characters (except for that of Jim Carrey), at least in my opinion. So that's what's grotesque.
And about it being sad - well, it's not precisely fun when you see people dancing on the bed of someone who is at the moment trying to rid himself of painful thoughts.
And actually, the end IS sorta "they lived happily ever after", but it's not "they lived happily ever after without a single problem or conflict".
