well, I knew I wasn't ugly, but I didn't feel like I'm overly attractive. You know, just a regular guy...

You're 18?! Jebus! And I still have to wait another year and 3 days before I can go to gigs :(. Well happy *extremely belated* birthday anyway. I hope you ain't insulted that I forgot it - a little thing called my last year of school has been occupying most of my time ( ... )

Star Wars: as I like to refer to it, it's a fairy-tale. It's got a princess, a bad guy, a good guy and everything else a fairy-tale (or as Tolkien would say - fairy-story :P (just saying that cos we read tolkiens essay in english class - im a geek :P)), it's not supposed to be some kind of deep parallel to the real world imho. I know ep.II was pretty bad, but no.3 makes up for it, cos it doesn't have THAT much melodramatic love dialogue.
one more thing: The link didn't work.

Tried to watch the trailer, but with my slow internet connection, I gave up after it kept on playing brief pieces while downloading the rest (=very choppy)
amazon probably ships to slovakia, but I don't have my own credit card and don't feel like wasting my parents one...not really used to online shopping.

So if a good movie should be emotionally resonant, then why do you like LOTR so much? Can you relate with the characters in LOTR? I dunno, but I don't think I can - I'm neither a king, magician, elf, nor a dwarf, hobbit or any other type of creature, I'm not burdened with saving the world, etc. etc. etc.
Star Wars is a fairy-story, and just like in any other fairy story, you don't have to relate to anything. Can you relate to the princess who kissed the frog? Or any other princess? Or any other frog? :) I know I can't. The main point of a fairy-story is usually the moral. And Star Wars has a moral - all the Light side/Dark side stuff.
I know it's not THE best movie ever, but it's good.

Before I get too lazy to continue debating the topic, I'll just clarify that I find the characters in Star Wars to be wooden, two-dimensional action figures. This is mostly due to the script, and partly due to the god-awful direction. Some blame the actors, but Natalie Portman and Ewan McGregor have proven themselves to be very good in the past - under good directors and with good scripts. Even Hayden Christensen wasn't bad in Shattered Glass. There's only so much an actor can do with such awful lines and very very wrong direction. And who can care for, or relate to wooden characters? They aren't real.
LOTR and Serenity (www.serenitymovie.com), on the otherhand, don't have wooden characters. It doesn't matter that they're in some other world or whatever - they are HUMANISED.
Anyway, that's my problem. I can see why other people enjoy it though, and that's fine. :)

to SW: I can only repeat what I've said before: it's a fairy-story, except it's got spaceships. I mean, the whole thing always starts with "In a galaxy far far away". Now if that's not a fairy-tale start, I don't know what is. Thus, it doesn't have to be as serious, unmelodramatic as a good movie should be. Just like in Beauty and the Beast, or Aladdin, there are these overly pathetic declarations of love etc.
But I just don't feel like arguing about it anymore...
btw I already read your entry :)
