20 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Komui But Probably Didn't Need to Know Because They're Not Really Canon Anyway!
1. Komui lived 19 years in China and (roughly) 10 in England. He doesn't really feel a pull towards one culture over another, so while he wears a lot of traditional clothing from home (it's much comfier than those blasted waistcoats) and observes many of the holidays and traditions, he does call himself an English citizen.
2. For the same reason as above, he speaks both languages fluently, and with decent pronunciation. (It helps that English is the official language employed by the Black Order-- this is canon.) He also speaks a fair amount of German, Japanese, Italian, French, and Portuguese. Note: "a fair amount" only, meaning "just barely enough to maintain a conversation with new recruits, plus the aid of helpful dictionaries and hand gestures".
3. Despite working for the Vatican, Komui is not religious. He wasn't raised to believe in organized religions, and he thinks that if God really is a protector of the weak and the innocent, his sister would never have had to go through what she did. So, as far as he's concerned, the Christian god and his miracles are a lie.
4. All the holidays Komui observes, he observes mostly out of respect for his now-dead family, and nostalgia for life back home, before the war.
5. Komui never expected to go into science, and he never really would have had the war never happened. In fact, he had no interest/didn't know much about engineering until he got to Europe. He does enjoy science now, but occasionally feels slightly guilty knowing that he would not have found this out in other circumstances.
6. River is his hetero lifemate. Komui is as straight as an arrow, but after all this, life without the science crew and at very least River. And sleazy boys will stay far away from Rinali if she has TWO big scary men taking care of her. :D
7. Sweets. Komui does enjoy them, but here's the catch-- he only likes "sophisticated" goodies. Tiramisu, things with coffee or cheese flavors, etc, etc. He likes to think he's very tasteful, but remember, this man walks around Headquarters in bedroom slippers.
8. Komui KNOWS he is in Jump. He's only read a little of it, to see if they're Doing It Right. He also knows there is a fandom, and the kinds of things they get up to. Fanworks, etc. He thinks you're all funny. <3 (And that was so much meta right there, I think my brain imploded.)
9. Dammit Cross, you just had to take my golems and make an even better model. :/ No, Komui really does think Cross is intelligent, and a brilliant inventor.....it's just a pity his methods and behavior are what they are.
10. The kids: Except for Allen, Komui doesn't really see the boys as a threat to his darling baby sister. Well. Okay, fine. Allen's a given. With Rabi, you never know. ...or Kanda could try to put the moves on, it's always the quiet ones. Or what if Johnny suddenly-- (which is to say: he's really only worried about Allen, but he tends to get VERY carried away worrying.)
11. Komui likes the movies he found on the internet. Especially adventures and Westerns, and especially Seven Samurai and The Magnificent Seven. And lots of "Golden Age of Cinema" pieces. He figures if he were the kind of guy, he'd love a poster of Marilyn Monroe. Classy!
12. On the other hand, he thinks pornography is tasteless and tacky.
13. Outdoor baths are like one of his favorite things ever. The idea to include one on European Headquarters grounds was entirely his idea.
14. Drinking: is a no. He doesn't drink, normally, and wouldn't drink much socially, but he does like the good stuff on special occasions. We're talking the quality Cross likes to consume regularly.
15. Komui has no idea what he's going to do with his life after the war. He just knows he wants to stay with his sister, or nearby her. He doesn't want to lose the only family he has left. Of course, this is considering the possibility that they win.

17. In terms of sleep, Komui nearly rivals L for amount of sleep per week not had. He frequently subsists on less than four hours of sleep, with no naps, little remedial sleep periods, and too much caffeine for his own good. I'm sure we're talking like a minimum of 15 cups a day. And I mean 15 cups of the really heavy brews, drunk black. His room remains unused for weeks at a time.
18. Komui loves goofy songs from all over the world. "Henry the Eighth" is up there, and ever since he heard "Waltzing Matilda" from River, that was, too. He likes singing them. Often. Not always on key.
19. He is used to hearing lots of emo, existentialist angst, and misdirected anger. Almost half the soldiers in the Black Order are under 27, and next to none of them were prepared to become soldiers in a losing battle against a near-invulnerable. Lots of them are resentful at first, and angry, and since he makes time to meet them, and does regular Innocence maintenance and exams, he hears from them a lot- the good and the bad. Your emo will not shock him one bit.
20. Komui is terrible with keeping up to date with community events. As with the muns, RL > OL. And RL is currently rocks falling and everyone dying. Right in his living room. He's badly informed. :D He has no idea we've become chock full of actual deities and psychopaths. Slow claps, Komurin, slow claps.
