1.
Victoria is like a classic Chinese movie star with her sloping nose and full lips and Luna can never take her eyes away. She has this endless grace that oozes from her skin and touches Luna’s heart in a way she can’t explain. She’s tried to put it into words and Victoria couldn’t understand. The meaning was lost in the round vowels of her Korean and Luna couldn’t stand the searching sparkle in Victoria’s eyes. She just kissed her instead, took her soft cheeks in her hands and kissed her and while she could feel Victoria tense and hold her breath, she didn’t pull away, and Luna kisses her harder even as her heart thuds against her chest and tells her that she should be scared. When she pulls away, her fingers are shaking and Victoria looks stunned, but no longer confused, and when she pulls Luna in close, arms wrapped around her shoulders, and pulls her face into the crook of her neck, Luna can smell the classic smell that she can only describe as comfort and she smiles and knows that everything will be ok.

2.
“Unni,” Sooyoung says one night as they sit out on the balcony. “I’m scared.”

Sunny picks at a scab on her knee and looks at the younger girl hanging her long arms over the railing, staring at the lights of the city below. Cars honk down the streets and goose bumps rise on their skin, but they’re used to the cold by now.

“This wasn’t supposed to happen,” Sooyoung continues. “I wasn’t supposed to fall for him. We can’t fall in love in a business like this.” Her feet are bare and flat against the concrete floor and Sunny’s eyes follow her long legs up and through her hair that falls over her shoulds and up until she finds her face and it’s twisted up like she’s about to cry. Sunny wants to jump up and hold her and tell her it’ll all be ok, but she can’t because she’s not the one Sooyoung’s longing for.

Her chest constricts and she feels like she could vomit, but she’s here to comfort Sooyoung and so she says, “It’ll be ok, Sooyoungah. Don’t worry. They’re changing our schedules soon anyway, and then you won’t see him and you’ll be so busy you won’t have time to think.” She can’t wait for the time herself, when she can block out her thoughts, and she tells herself just to wait and then she won’t have to think nearly as much.

3.
Hyomin wants to be as carefree and loved as Sunny. She tries her hardest to be funny on Invincible Youth so she won’t get edited out, but Eeteuk loves her just the way she is. He calls Sunny’s phone once when the girls are on their way to the country and she throws it to Hyomin to answer. She flips the phone open without looking at the name on the screen.

“Hello?” she says in the receiver and gets a high shock of laugher in return.

“It’s Hyominnie!” she hears Eeteuk’s voice on the other end. The line cracks and his voice is broken with it, but the tone is clear and she can’t imagine any voice that could make her happier.

“Oppa, it’s been a while.”

“I’ve missed you,” he says, and she doesn’t worry about getting cut on the show anymore because she knows he’ll watch even if she’s only on the screen for a moments.

4.
Kangin holds her small hand in his and begs her to stay. He’s two seconds away from getting down on his knees and crying out, but his pride keeps his feet rooted strong to the ground.

“Gain, please don’t go.” His words are slurred and his grip on her hand his shaky but she doesn’t pull away. Even when she’s seconds from leaving, she can’t pull away from his warmth.

Her eyes are so red and swollen, they look shut, and still tears are on her cheeks and he goes to wipe them away, but she slaps his hand away and glares at him as best she can through the blurriness of her tears. “You said you’d quit, Kangin. I can’t deal with you going out all the time like this. It’s not going to work if it’s like this. I can’t trust you when you’re like this.”

“Gain, I love you,” he says, and he blinks away the stinging in his eyes that are both from emotion and alcohol. She chokes back a sob and can’t move away when he wraps his arms around her neck and pulls her close. He smells of cheap beer and cigarette smoke and she hates it, but she whispers, “I love you,” back anyway and buries her face in his chest, willing herself to smell the balmy scent of his skin instead of the staleness of his sweat and what he’s become.

5.
"Hyung. Hyung, please say something." The receiver is hot in his hand, and sweaty, and the silence stretches through his ear. "Hyung. Please, hyung, I just want-" Yunho rests a hand on his arm as the line clicks and goes blank, a dial tone sounding in his ear.

“Hung up again?” Yunho asks, his voice rumbling deep in his throat, catching on the back of his tongue. Changmin sighs, doesn’t answer; he sets the cell phone on the bed side table and stands. Yunho’s hand slips from his arm.

“Yeah,” he whispers. “Yeah, he hung up again.”
