Title: 소녀, 사랑을 만나다
Pairing: Krystal/Yoona, Krystal/Minho
Rating: PG
Summary: The three times Krystal Jung may have fallen in love.
Note: started 5.21.09, ended 6.1.09. Inspired by the
Juliette MV,
this post about Krystal and Jessica,
this picture of Minho and Krystal, and
how much Krystal looks like Yoona.
1.
The first time Krystal Jung falls in love, she is five years old.
Her kindergarten teacher is tall and handsome, with sandy hair and warm eyes. He pronounces her last name correctly, unlike that old lady who showed her the classroom, and smiles at her. He speaks to her slowly and carefully, always making sure she can understand.
Krystal remembers Mr. Strider's smile when she auditions for SM Entertainment four years later, her sister tagging along for support. His smile was warmer than those of the men in suits sitting behind the table, their lips straining over white teeth.
2.
Krystal has always looked up to her older sister. Jessica may seem cold, but she can sing and she's gorgeous. There's always that little bit of sibling rivalry, especially when their mother lets Jessica practice more. Krystal loves her sister and admires her talent, but she can't help but be a little jealous.
She's never jealous of Stephanie, for some reason, but then, coming from almost the same place, she's almost like another real sister, but nicer and more willing to pamper her. Maybe it's because Stephanie has always seemed to be maybe a tad unsure about her talents. Krystal feels like maybe they're going through the same bits of uncertainty. Somehow, though, it’s different with Yoona. Yoona can sing and act and dance (god, can she dance), and sometimes Krystal is amazed at how beautiful she is, but she can't bring herself to envy Yoona. Instead, every time Krystal sees her, she's struck in awe. And as she watches Jessica and Yoona get closer and closer, she can't help but grow even more jealous toward her sister. She wants to be best friends with Yoona, she wants to be the one to hear Yoona's secrets, to comfort Yoona when she's upset, to giggle with her when they should be sleeping, to give her tips to sing better.
She looks at her sister's cyworld updates and feels little flips in her stomach when Jessica's selca pictures with Yoona appear on the screen. She thinks of Mr. Strider's smile again, compares it to Yoona's small grin in the pictures. Mr. Strider's smile showed teeth and confidence and made Krystal feel calm and warm. But Yoona's smile, closed-lipped and crinkling her eyes, makes her heart patter.
The second time Krystal Jung falls in love, she is twelve years old.
3.
The first time Krystal Jung knows she's fallen in love, she is fifteen years old.
She's ignored her crush on Yoona since she realized that those little flutters in her stomach were not coincidence. She writes it off as admiration, like Jessica admires BoA (though maybe just a little bit more). Her friends tease her, but she won't let herself agree that it's bordering on worship.
She'd been in denial for almost three years when she watches her unnis on Star Dance Battle. Krystal has seen Yoona dance before. It's fluid and beautiful and energetic. Rather than working towards her sister's level while in her own practices, Krystal finds herself trying to mimic Yoona instead. She's seen Yoona dance before, but never like this. The same power and grace is present, but this has something more. This is not the same cute and structured dance she is used to watching. There are the same body rolls, the same proud and strong stances, legs flexing and arms swinging through the air, but Krystal can see something different. Perhaps it's Yoona's certainty, her movements exuding confidence, or the look on her face, a small smirk and a quirk of an eyebrow.
The normal prickles in Krystal's chest change to a slow burning low in her stomach, a burning blush spreading over her cheeks. Yoona's eyes twinkle like she knows, even through the television screen.
4.
She feels almost like a princess in her white dress, except for the fact that the wings are kind of itchy and she's nervous. It's not her first filming for a music video, but it's her first time as a sort-of major figure and she's scared she'll mess up. She had only met Taemin and Jonghyun so far and figured they were nice enough. She knows who all of them are, of course, but the filming is the first time she's really had any close interaction with any of them.
Krystal hopes she doesn't look too nervous, but she figures she's failed a bit when the remaining three members walk in and Jinki gives her a gentle smile. She's suddenly reminded of her youth compared to all of them. Even Taemin is a good year older than her.
Her breath catches a bit when she sees Minho. Damn he's tall. And he's so much better looking up close than all those times she's seen him from afar at the SM building, or even all those pictures she's seen of him on the internet while searching for news about her sunbaes. They exchange quick hellos and introductions and she waits until it's her turn to film.
She watches them film their drama scenes, lounging on couches and sending glances to the camera. It's kind of scary, considering that this is what she'll be doing in the future, this is what she dreams of. Her heart pounds as they film her individual shots. She's so thankful for the mask. It's terrifying, thinking how much she could mess this up.
Krystal glances to the side and sees Jinki and Minho watching her. Jinki gives a little thumbs up and a smile, while Minho just watches, the tips of his lips curved up slightly. It's almost the same expression he uses later, when they film together. He removes his mask and just watches her as she slowly takes hers down. She knows from the look in his eyes that he can tell how scared she is, but he gives that tiny tiny smile and she's brave enough to follow through, staring up into his eyes, even as her heart thumps against her chest, until they call cut and she breaks into a nervous smile. "Good job," he says, his voice low and quiet, and his grin widens just a tad.
Minho's arm brushes against hers as they pose for pictures in their Juliette outfits. A blush rises on her cheeks and her stomach flips, but she thinks that this time, maybe it's not because of the camera. Krystal angles her face towards Minho's and looks into the camera. She can imagine his expressions right now: intense eyes with just a hint of a smile. She thinks of Minho's quiet demeanor and hopes she can keep in touch with all of the boys, but especially him.
Krystal Jung is fifteen years old when she thinks she could maybe forget that she's already in love and considers that perhaps she could find something else with someone new.
