Somewhere in the back of her mind, River knew that this should bother her more. Somewhere even deeper in the dark corners of her mind, it did bother her. This wasn't her Doctor. The Doctor is ignoring his fading trepidations. He doesn't want to break River's heart, or at least not irretrievably so. He's found anytime he's opened his hearts, a least a little heartache comes with it, eventually. Nothing lasts forever.

And if he is easier and trusts more, it's because he's tried to embrace this fact. Some pain will just come when it comes. You can try to avoid it, but you're about as likely to miss out of wonderful things too, if you do.

River is a bit wonderful. He'd rather take the time to enjoy her company, rather than ignore that.

Which is why his diving into this kiss with passion. No point in holding back.

It should have been like kissing someone new, but it's not. It's entirely too familiar and she presses up against him, shivering a little when she realizes they're both still wet. She nips his bottom lip and pulls away just enough that she can murmur in the space between them. "We should get you out of these wet clothes."

She reaches up and starts playing with his bow tie.

She takes a step back, then, and spreads her hands. "Do you want to help me out of them, then?" She smiles at him and it's a bit - well, more than a bit - of a challenge.
