The books I ordered two weeks ago arrived the day after (thank you Amazon) so since then I've been reading like my life depends on it. Spoilers ahead for The Mortal Instruments & The Hunger Games.
The Mortal Instruments » GOD LORD I AM IN LOVE WITH THESE BOOKS. THEY ARE NOW MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE’S AND I AM ALREADY PLANNING TO RE-READ THEM MULTIPLE TIMES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. It’s easily done. I read all of them in four days (which is more like three if you add the hours) and even stayed up until 2:30 am to read one night just because I COULD NOT STOP BECAUSE THEY ARE AMAZING AND I LOVE JACE. Oh man seriously him and Clary do NOT have it easy. I already knew the ‘OMG BIG PLOT TWIST THAT WILL MAKE YOU WANT TO RIP YOUR HAIR OUT’ (fyi, it did make me want to) but I still loved it. Jace/Clary and Jacob/Bella are like neck and neck right now. I CAN HAVE TWO FAVOURITE OTP’S RIGHT?!
Seriously, these books, FML ARE HILARIOUS. SOOO MAN FUNNY LINES (mostly from Jace) that actually had me laughing so much I had to stop reading because the book was shaking. I saw a post on quietlines journal agessss ago of favourite lines which I’m gonna do (sorry bb totally stealing your idea) because TMI has so much greatness, it needs to be shared.
Clary; our main girl is actually all right as far as female protagonist’s go. She’s stubborn and very rarely does what people tell her. I like her and her super magical OMG I CAN MAKE NEW RUNES BECAUSE I HAVE MORE ANGEL BLOOD THEN ANY OF YOU BECAUSE MY DAD’S A WACK JOB AND FIGURED IT WOULD BE SUCH A GREAT IDEA TO EXPERIMENT ON UNBORN CHILDREN. Such a sweet girl and one quote about her I can totally agree with:
“When you were as short as Clary was, just over five feet, you were cute. Not pretty or beautiful, but cute.” I AM 5’1” AND I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL BB, SUCKS!
Jace; Oh my Lordy Jace Wayland/othernameshehasthroughouttheseries you are wonderful. I love you and you’re sarcastic, witty, TOTALLY HURTING INSIDE BUT PRETEND TO BE TOO COOL FOR SCHOOL SO NOBODY NOTICES THAT. Poor bb has a tough time throughout the series and I just wanted to hug him after City of Bones (the first book) and then even more so at the end of City of Ashes (the second one) because OMG THAT WAS SO HEART BREAKING AND YOU CAN TELL IT’S KILLING HIM TO SAY WHAT HE DOES!!!. OH AND THEN IN CITY OF GLASS (THIRD BOOK), WHEN HIM AND ISABELLA ARE FIGHTING SEBASTIAN/JONATHON AND SEBASTIAN/JONATHON STABS HIM OH AND THEN WHEN VALENTINE KILLS HIM FML I WAS CRYING MY EYES OUT AND THEN WHEN CLARY BRINGS HIM BACK, I WAS SOBBING MY HEART OUT BY THAT POINT. Sorry that just totally ruined the plot but I did warn you.
Alec; ALEC! He makes up another paring that I was totally rooting for after the first book. I totally feel sorry for him, being in love with Jace and then having Clary come along and Jace falling for her. HEARTBREAKING STUFF. AND IT’S NOT LIKE HE CAN ADMIT HE’S GAY OR THE CLAVE WILL PUNISH HIM AND URG IT SUCKS. When he kissed Magnas in the final book I was smiling so much because OMG ADORABLE!! OH AND WHEN CLARY I THINK CALLS OUT SHOTGUN WHEN THEY ALL GO TO GET IN THE VAN AND ALEC JUMPS OUT WITH A BOW AND ARROW AND SHOUTS WHERE, THINKING CLARY MEANT THAT THERE WAS A SHOTGUN NEAR NOT THAT SHE WANTED TO SIT IN THE FRONT OF THE VAN. Oh Alec, so clueless.
Isabelle; Is one tough cookie. She’s lethal with that whip of hers, and I can’t believe (Jace of all people) did not make one single sex related joke about Isabelle using a whip. ESPECIALLY AFTER THE SIMON/ISABELLE ‘DID THEY HAVE SEX OR DID THEY JUST SLEEP TOGETHER OT DID THEY DO OTHER STUFF THAT COULD HAVE INCLUDED THE WHIP?’ THING. She’s a total bitch to Clary at first but I do love her. Plus what she says to Clary about Jace in the final book totally made me cry:
“And then when he met you, it was like he woke up. You couldn’t see it, because you’d never known him any different. But I saw it. Hodge saw it. Alec saw it-why do you think he hated you so much? It was like that from the second we met you. You thought it was amazing that you could see us, and it was, but what was amazing to me was that Jace could see you, too.” BRB, DYING.
Magnus; “Magnus Bane? But-that’s not even a name!” No because you missed out the TOTALLY AWESOME part in the middle. I LOVE LOVE LOVE when they are all leaving his party and he winks at Alec and tells him to call him and Alec just stands there blushing and spluttering all embarrassed and Jace has to pull him away. OH AND THEN THE BEST ALEC/MAGNUS MOMENT IS IN CITY OF GLASS (THE THIRD BOOK) WHERE ALEC SEES MAGNUS BEING PURSUED BY DEMONS AND HE SAVES HIM AND MAGNUS IS LIKE “ALEC DID YOU JUST SAVE MY LIFE?” AND ALEC SAYS “YOU NEVER CALLED ME BACK. I CALLED YOU SO MANY TIMES AND YOU NEVER CALLED ME BACK.” OH IT’S SO GREAT BECAUSE THE CITY IS UNDER ATTACK AND THE STREETS ARE FILLED WITH DEMONS BUT HERE THESE TWO ARE TALKING ABOUT WHY MAGNUS NEVER CALLED HIM BACK AND THEN MAGNUS SAYS HE LOVES ALEC AND ALEC IS SO SHOCKED AND THEN HE’S LIKE REALLY AND MAGNUS IS LIKE YES YOU STUPID AND THEN ALEC IS LIKE IF WE LIVE THROUGH THIS I’LL INTRODUCE YOU TO MY PARENTS WHICH HE HAS BEEN SO SCARED TO DO. AHHH LOVE!
Simon; Is a geek with a capital G. Him and Clary makes so many references to things that would make sense to all of us but confuse the hell out of Jace/Alec and Isabella because they have no idea. When he gets turned into a vampire OMG I WAS SO SHOCKED BUT IT’S OK BECAUSE IT TURNS OUT HE’S A DAYLIGHTER WHICH MEANS HE CAN GO OUT IN THE SUN BECAUSE HE’S SPECIAL WHICH DOES PROVE A PROBLEM IN CITY OF GLASS BUT NO WORRIES. Isabelle and this werewolf girl Maia both have the hots for Simon but I totally ship him and Isabelle more because OMG I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THEY DID IN THAT DIRTY NIGHT TOGETHER. HAHA.
My favourite Simon line had me crying;
“Patience, grasshopper,” said Maia. “Good things come to those who wait.”
“I always thought it was ‘Good things come to those who do the wave,’” said Simon. “No wonder I’ve been so confused all my life.”
“’Confused’ is a nice word for it,” said Jace.
So yes, go read these books now because as Jace put it, "'Shadowhunters: Looking Better in Black Than the Widows of our Enemies Since 1234.'"
OH AND FYI THERE WILL BE A FOURTH BOOK 'CITY OF FALLEN ANGELS' BUT IT'S NOT COMING OUT UNTIL MARCH 2011...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I CAN'T FRICKIN WAIT THAT LONG CASSANDRA CLARE DO YOU HEAR ME?!? I WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO SIMON NOW THAT HE HAS THE MARK OF CAIN AND THE EFFECTS THAT WILL HAVE ON HIM AND I WANT MORE CLARY/JACE WHO CAN NOW BE TOGETHER AND I WAN TO KNOW WHAT THE SEELIE QUEEN IS GOING TO DO BECAUSE SHE IS GOING TO DO SOMETHING OTHER WISE YOU WOULDN'T HAVE DONE THAT LITTLE BIT AT THE END OF CITY OF GLASS WITH HER AND CLARY AND I ESPECIALLY WANT TO KNOW IF SEBASTIAN/JONATHON IS REALLY DEAD BECAUSE I DON'T THINK HE IS!!!!!!!
The Hunger Games » I've read the first book and I'm currently about 3/4 of the way through the second one but I just have to talk about it. FML IT'S A LOVE TRIANGLE ALL OVER AGAIN EXCEPT THIS ONE IS WAY MORE INTERESTING THEN EDWARD/JACOB BECAUSE EDWARD IS AN ARSE AND IS SHIT BUT PEETA AND GALE ARE JUST BOTH SO LOVELY AND OMG WHY?! I SWEAR IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO EITHER OF THEM BETWEEN NOW AND THE END OF CATCHING FIRE I WILL CRY MY EYES OUT. I think I've already cried reading this series but I can't be sure which book/which moment it was. I think I like Peeta more but OMG IT'S HEART BREAKING BECAUSE HE LOVES HER BUT SHE'S ONLY ACTING AND IT'S NOT FAIR. I SCREAMED TOWARDS THE END OF THE FIRST BOOK WHEN KATNISS AND PEETA ARE THE ONLY TWO LEFT AND THE BERRIES!!! LORDY I WAS LIKE DON'T DO IT, DON'T KILL YOURSELVES EVEN THOUGH IT WAS SORT OF SWEET THAT THEY DIDN'T WANT TO KILL EACH OTHER SO THEY THOUGHT THEY'D DEFY THE CAPITOL AND KILL THEMSELVES INSTEAD BUT THEN THEY DON'T BECAUSE THEY ARE BOTH ALOUD TO WIN. AHHHHHH!!
I had to pry my fingers off the book just to type this up but I don't have that many chapters left of Catching Fire now, actually I have four left. OMG I ONLY HAVE FOUR CHAPTERS LEFT. I'M KIND OF SCARED YOU GUYS, SOMETHING BAD IS GOING TO HAPPEN I KNOW IT!!!!!
So yes, I recommend those two series of books...in case you couldn't tell.
