Hi - I followed you over from Meredith's journal (loved your mums on the porch pic!). I'm chiming in b/c I'm a knitter and saw that you didn't get any responses to your question yet. I learned English style about 10 years ago now and have done quite a bit of knitting that way. A few months ago I decided to give Continental style a try because I too heard it was faster and wanted to check it out. I followed the instruction videos on knittinghelp.com and found that it took some getting used to, but once I got in a groove, I could really fly. I've done one baby blanket in Continental style (on huge needles--sz. 11-- I found that much easier than on smaller needles for now) and I'm looking forward to trying another project with it soon.
I'd say give it a try, but be patient because it feels very different and was a little frustrating at times because I knew I knew how to do something just couldn't get my hands to cooperate! Good luck!
Hi! I remember you! You're Merideth's knitting friend. I'm going to add you to my friend's list if you don't mind.
Thanks for the reply. Isn't knittinghelp.com great?!
I'm glad that you let me know that it takes patience to adjust to it. I had thought about learning it while doing Clapotis and now I realize that that's not a great idea, since I just learned to knit/purl into the front and back of a stitch and it would probably confuse me to have to have to figure out doing that continental.
Hi! I'm glad you remembered me... I was afraid that you would see this post from a random stranger and freak out! I'm going to friend you back, although I haven't been much of a poster late. I'm going to try to post some of my recent knitting conquests now, so we'll see how that goes.
I had the same issue with continental... I found k and p to be difficult enough without trying to also figure out how to do the trickier stitches. I think I'm going to do one more wicked easy baby blanket (lots of stockinette stitch, big needles) in continental style before trying something more challenging.
