Over the past two weeks, I haven't gotten in as much knitting time as I would like. But next week should be a slow week schoolwork-wise, so I should be able to get some good knitting time in this weekend ( Read more... )

The girls in my knitting group are all making the "Sweet Suede" bag from knitty, and we're all using a Rowan cotton suede type yarn. It's a major PITA to knit with! I agree with you about not being able to see the stitches well. The bag is basically all stockinette stich and it will look nice and pretty evenly suede-like. It would be a waste to try to do any other type of stitch pattern with that kind of yarn. If you're stuck with a couple of balls of the suede, maybe you could make her a small handbag, and then get a coordinating yarn for the scarf.

I chose chestnut brown for Brian. He isn't very adventurous with color either and mostly wears shades of blue, green, and grey. He seems to like the brown though...we'll see.

I'm very nervous about this...

I returned the three balls suede yarn, which more than paid for the four balls of cashmirino yarn I bought to replace it.

I ended up getting the "natural mix" yarn for Brian's sweater. It was the only color they had left of the Patons that had enough all of the same dyelot...other than colors like red, orange, green, and light blue, which he wouldn't go for. I also bought one skein of "aran" (beige) to do a stripe along the hem and the end of each sleeve. There were only 8 of the "natural mix" and I need 8.5 according to the pattern. So hopefully the stripe along the ends will be enough to make it work out.

I am sure they will get more in soon, you could look later if you think you won't have enough. It also seems to go on sale quite often.
