There is nothing wrong with how you feel duke, these are the times where, as redundant as it might sound, time is the only thing that reveals the decisions you must make. So i've read, read ,and read some more. And you know what, it's up to you, you are a grown man and you can make the decison. It's all yours! It seems that you feel you will be hurt and feel useless again and if that's what you feel then we won't talk. However, I could have sworn that in a comment that another person made he said "Mistakes should only be made once" well... practice what you preach then because where I come from when you don't that's called being a hypocrite!
