Icon meme

The lovely and talented agent_rouka tagged me:

1) Reply to this post, and I will pick six of your icons.
2) Make a post and talk about the icons I chose.
3) Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4) This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee. Whoo!

Insomnia:

I have a giant folder full of icons, most of which I've never used. I collect them, I guess you'd say. If I ever do the paid-account thing (which, at this point, not so much), I'll use some of them, maybe, but for the most part they sit in this folder. This is one of the first icons I picked up when I started my LJ (made by the fabulous flicking_icons), but I only started using it in the past few months. But it's totally true -- I'm a terrible night owl, although insomnia doesn't inspire me so much as deadlines. But when I'm up late and messing around, I like to use this icon.

Crazy DC:

By soaked_in_stars. Much as I love DC, it definitely gets to me sometimes -- the lack of cheap fast food, the lack of the el, wimpy weather, delusions of grandeur -- and I need to leave. But, seeing as I'm a cheap college student, I can't. So I have to figure out ways to get out without actually physically leaving. This icon is about that. Um, and about how West Wing is awesome.

Evil owl:

By mrbnatural. I think I started using this when agent_rouka and I started getting into cracktastic discussions and I needed something to appropriately express how insane I was. Mine is an evil laugh! But a cute, harmless one.

Defy Republicans:

Made by <"lj user="kotoko_16">. Again, West Wing is awesome. Kristin Chenoweth (the actress pictured) played Glinda in Wicked, but here she's playing the delightful Annabeth. And although West Wing doesn't really have any kind of agenda except getting people to believe in government again (which they do after watching the show, incidentally), the show does take place inside the White House of a Democratic president. Also, "defy Republicans" scans well to "Defying Gravity," the big number from the show.

I tend not to use this icon terribly much, because I don't want to start giant political arguments. Which is strange, because -- look at her! She's so cute and sweet! How could she possibly cause trouble? ("No one ever looks like Joseph McCarthy; that's how they get in the door in the first place," is the answer. Not that Annabeth (or Chenoweth, for that matter) is McCarthy, but the point is Appearances Are Deceiving.)

Political Josh:

I actually don't know who made this icon. I found it way, way back in high school, when I was assembling a folder of pictures of West Wing people for some reason. Even though it was a tiny image, I saved it, because the scene in question is just so awesome. And I have this thing where I can't quite figure out who from West Wing I want to be when I grow up -- they're all fantastic in different ways. But regardless of what I end up doing with my life, there will always be room in the world for people like Josh, and I'm glad.

I can't find a clip of the scene, but here's the monologue (it's from Five Votes Down): "Do you have any idea how much noise Air Force One makes when it lands in Eau Claire, Wisconsin? We're going to have a party, Congressman. You should come, it's gonna be great. And when the watermelon's done, right in town square, right in the band gazebo... You guys got a band gazebo? Doesn't matter, we'll build one. Right in the band gazebo, that’s where the President is going to drape his arm around the shoulder of some assistant DA we like. And you should have your camera with you. You should get a picture of that. 'Cause that's gonna be the moment you're finished in Democratic politics. President Bartlet's a good man. He's got a good heart. He doesn't hold a grudge. That's what he pays me for."

Gray weather:

I made it! Me! All by myself! It's a panel from the comic strip Frazz (hence the copyright and creator's name at the bottom there), which is usually funny and often really sweet. I don't have Seasonal Affective Disorder, but I do like to see the sun every so often, and I get grouchy when I don't. Doesn't have to be for the whole day -- just a little glimpse makes me feel better. For times when there is an appalling lack of sunshine in my life.
