Can you tell that I'm not excited about this?

A comment from hangingfire made me think about this whole wisdom-teeth-removal thing. What are your experiences, O Best Beloved Flist?

Cut for decently-sized poll. And aliens. )

I had my wisdom teeth out a few years back (while going under), but then for some reason turned down taking drugs afterwards.

WORST DECISION OF MY ENTIRE LIFE. DON'T BE STOIC. JUST DON'T DO IT.

Also, aliens! :D :D :D

DON'T BE STOIC. JUST DON'T DO IT.

BUT I CANNOT SHAME MY KLINGON ANCESTORS. OR SOMETHING.

Also, aliens!

I totally thought of you when writing those questions. :D

I had all four of my wisdom teeth out early last year. I went under (which meant I also had to take some pre-surgery sedatives) and they gave me Vicodin to take for the pain afterward. I have a blissful lack of memory of the entire morning containing the surgery, from when I took my pills at the asscrack of dawn before my dad came to pick me up to sitting around my living room some time after coming back from the surgery.

(I briefly woke up during the surgery and had to alert them to my state and be re-sedated, but my memory of this is very fleeting and vague.)

My post-surgery pain was not actually that bad. On the first day I took Vicodin a couple of times, when I got an initial inkling of HOH MY GOD THIS IS GONNA HURT A LOT IN A SECOND, and took it maybe once more the day after surgery, and then I went with Advil.

I highly recommend going under full anesthesia and taking plenty of whatever painkilling drugs they prescribe to you afterward. I mean, you're having surgery in your face.

But were they sedatives or sedagives?

Eeeek, waking up during surgery! The only time I've gone under anathesia I stayed under but felt like hell afterwards. On the other hand, wisdom teeth apparently --> the good drugs, which they don't give to eight-year olds. (They get milkshakes instead.)

I do think I'm going to end up going under.

I was awake for it and had numbing shots and there was some pain but mostly it was just my horror and panic that had me sweat-soaked afterwards.

That's what I've had when I've had teeth before, when I was a Tender Sweet Young Thing. I was not the best patient they've ever had. Which is why I think I'll go under for this. SHOTS IN MY FACE AUGH.

But whatever you do, never tell the aliens that you are ticklish.

Important life advice! :D

I know! I've only gone under anasthesia once, but it is like time travel! It's like -- wait, what, it's over? How did that happen?

Thanks! It'll be an adventure, at least.
