His father’s voice was barely recognisable in the pride he expressed. Barty politely ignored the stares he was given by the colleagues of his father. The hand of his mother was light on his shoulder. The men and the few women they encountered, into the small stroll Mr Crouch had conceded his family for Barty’s promotion...
...they didn’t know him, nor the reasons driving him to this praised height. They ignored the passions behind it all.
The Dark Lord didn’t, of course. And the Dark Lord’s pleasure had been more evident, tangible, and gratifying.
He could smile.
