I hope you're proud of the Church of Latter Day Saints' (apparent, short-lived) victory on Proposition 8 in California. What makes Proposition 8 appear so short-lived? I've been trying to find a silver lining in that.

Demographics.

Old people voted "Yes" something like 60-40.
Medium people voted evenly.
Young people voted "No" roughly 60-40.

It was (and may still be) a very close call, so in 2 (or 4, or whatever) years when the proposition to rescind this abomination can be voted on, the "Yes" folks will lose.

On the other hand, there are still signs of progress. That the various anti-choice measures got universally defeated is definitely a good thing.
