Moving to Vienna

Sep 03, 2006 14:13

As some of you may know, I got the chance to move to Vienna for another job. The job would be quite interesting (responsible for the avionics of jet planes), but in the first years the payment is way too low. Still I have not rejected this opportunity completely (I am their no. 1 choice), but at some day I will have to decide if I take the new job ( Read more... )

Will that new job pay enough to live from? 'Cause in that case I would just go for it! Sometimes it's more important having an interesting job than a well-payed one. And you will get more money after a while...

Could you live having a job you would be bored with after a while, even if it payed millions? (Well, ok... The "millions" might not be the right example, but I guess you know what I mean... *grin*)

Good luck in making your choice, my dear! ;-)

the first year would be really though (being "in training") - and the next three years are only slightly better. at least it would mean a small flat, no vacations and alike.

Mh, can't you just wait one year or so? I mean, you like your current job and it is even paid better. Even if you don't have a future there... Maybe you should just stay there until you find something really better.

The one job in Vienna will start at December 1st, 2006. So a decission needs to be done SOON. Thinking of the last months, it's not getting better here, so better leaving early then staying too long.

If the payment in Vienna would only not be *that* bad for the first four years ....

Hehe... Sorry. But yeah, i guess you'll have to decide between 2 solutions which are not totally great but just ok.. (Hmm...)

No need to be sorry, you really got it to the point with "Hmm..."

I'm more and more thinking of finding a plan "C"

That is a tough choice. Moving is expensive, and it's no fun to have to live on a tight budget. At the same time, maybe there could be other good things about moving to Vienna? Other opportunites or just new people to meet. That might be worth it.

Hi Robin! You are back finally !
Well the budget would be really tight in the first two years, that's the main con of job. Other opportinities are not really an option, because I would have to stay in the job for a couple of years.
And talking about meeting people: I more and more realize that I do not know anyone anymore in any town ... so it would be the same no matter where I go

I don't know how back I am. It's because it's the weekend that I finally have some time. The weekdays are pretty busy for me now, and by the time I get home, I'm exhausted.

In your field, is it mostly men? I know a lot of people meet friends and even romantic partners through work, but for me, as an elementary school teacher, that wouldn't have worked. Every school I've been at has been mostly women. But still, friends can introduce you to other friends. I mean, if you work at a place that has some cool people you can maybe meet some other cool people through them, wherever you are. One pro for picking up and moving, at least. New friends, eventually. You're a great guy, you'd make friends anywhere you go, I'm sure of it.

i was actually not referring to the "dating" stuff, but to hanging out with friends in general. before returning back to my hometown for two meeks i called a bunch of people, but they are all too busy (or whatever) for going out ...

to answer your question, yes, in my field it is mostly men. and the new job in vienna would be even worse talking about this.
