Hurrah!

May 20, 2008 20:01

Today has been good.

My mom and I got all the weeds, wilted tulips and played out daffodils removed from the flowerbeds. Then I planted 9 different herbs (some of which I have been growing in yogurt cups since March) and drew/glued to sticks/put up little identification signs for them. AND-I got a job!

To celebrate the “welcome aboard” phone call, I jumped on the trampoline while listening to Of Montreal until I couldn’t anymore. Then Hobbs joined me and we lied there watching planes go by until my mom came out and tried to take our picture…

I’ll be working at a little chocolate shop in our modest downtown, about 2 miles from home-a perfect commute on my new (old) bike. My job titles will include register clerk, gift basket designer, dishwasher and …(drum roll please)…. chocolatier. (Check out http://lauraswordoftheday.blogspot.com/2008/05/my-new-identity.html to see exactly what that means.) I’m excited about it.

I’ll be working mid-afternoons and evenings. This is good, because it leaves the morning and early afternoon for all of my self-assigned projects:

•    The compost in the bin I built is so hot in the middle I can’t touch it-it’s working well!
•    The dandelion wine in my homemade fermenter has been fizzing vigorously for a few days now. (Washing bottles in the tub makes me feel like a bootlegger.)
•    I have gotten a few letters into the mail (Canadian friends: feel invested in when your letters arrive, because US to Canada postage just went up 34 cents-from .69 to $1.03-ridiculous!)
•    I am organizing materials for and experimenting with a few things for  painting, drawing, and gluing art projects.
•    I have a list of various sewing projects with reducing and reusing in mind.
•    I have finished reading  Pray Without Ceasing, a (long) short story by Wendell Berry.
•    I need to start reading Siddhartha, the story of a spiritual explorer by Herman Hesse, because I signed up to attend a book discussion on it at the local library tomorrow night.

Actually, I’m going to go read that now!
