I don't live in the city, I'm in PA. I live in a tiny city/town or however you'd like to think of it.
That's so sad.. I mean I've only ever seen homeless people who beg for change when I go to Philly or maybe Pittsburg. But other than that I'm not used to it. I feel kind of bad because of the times I have ended up going, I usually ignore them. The instances I've seen these people they usually are rude and follow you. After following for so long they tend to just blatantly say things and storm off if you're not willing to fork over some change. (At least this has happened to me)
Point is, despite seeing these two people that was nice of you to consider at least making them happy. Tis the season to give, non?
Oh, hon, it was so kind of you to do all that. Indeed it's a shame that you couldn't give the second man some money, but you did wish you could and (since you're a wonderful person) I know you'll probably carry a bit around next time, just in case.
I'll be honest, I've wanted to give some people change before, but my parents didn't want me to, and that was the end of that.
Hey! I went on livejournal, wondering if you still used it, and found this beautiful post.
I'm think it's wonderful that you gave change to one man, and I know you would have given the other man some had you had any more. I think the "could be a drug addict" is such a cop out, and I appreciate you giving even though you knew he might use the money negatively. These people need love and support, and addiction is a horrible disease. It's sad that some people won't use the money well, but our job is to love people and help them. It's their decision what to do with that kindness.
Anyways, reading this totally warmed my heart.
Also, I appreciate that you have another Meg in your life that you don't want to punch. ;)
