The Prestige

So having an odd Friday off, I made the dumb decision to walk thru Central Park on my way to see The Prestige. Debating about taking the bus, instead I found myself almost through the park when the rain hit and hit and hit. LOL, I looked like a rat as I dripped my way into the theater.

So, was it worth it??? Ummm... unfortunately not.

I cannot yet define why this movie was so disappointing, yet it was. Loads of good actors and yet... just bleh. I think part of the problem is that I didn't buy the obsession that formed such a core part of the story. You see when we meet Hugh and Christian's characters we don't get enough time to understand why they love magic, how they got involved in it, so then later, you don't understand why they would do anything to stay in it.

The women characters are a huge weak point - you don't really care about any of them and weirdly enough Scarlet's char literally disappears at some point with no explanation.

I guessed at one of the big twists early on, and the second one wasn't a surprise either (guess I shouldn't have seen The Illusionist first), and the third was just silly.

There was a row filled with fangirls who seemed to enjoy it more but probably just for shirtless Hugh. So, do I recommend it? Sadly no, at least not at the theater. Wait for the DVD. The extra's will be more fun than the film I would think.

Oh well... surely there will be something slashy and fun soon.
