So, am going this Bread for the World leadership training conference in June and am supposed to show up with a set of personal learning goals based on the community I am working/studying and living in. Bread is a Christian organization that works to lobby our government representatives to pass bills that will help relive hunger and poor nutrition ( Read more... )

related to the last point above;

is the food provided by these programs grown and subsidized in the US and ultimately benefiting Americans (while possibly undercutting local farmers in other countries), or will they be buying food from those local farmers even if it is less popular politically?

"Pass bills that will relieve hunger and poor nutrition in the US and abroad," is an enormous mission. Each word in that verbal phrase should have its own organization, Christian or otherwise, to spearhead any activity. I guess, with the food crisis and everything, the most important initial step would be awareness (right?) which equals, logically, the general public at Sam's Club and McDonald's being concerned and responding, which equals more support financially and in terms of organization and aid.

From there... well, yeah, what's the most efficient long-term strategy?

Aw crap. It's discouraging already.

Nanny and Food store? Why not both? Kids need to learn too!
