I guess I'm Ambitious

I am at an Albuquerque Public Library this time. Okay, so I posted two days in a row. Maybe I just was dreading catching you all the way up so I put off posting for awhile.

Today I put up some posters and designed a few bulletin boards in my classroom as well as assembling a shelving unit. Tomorrow I am going to be helping ladies from the community ( Read more... )

I reed a lot and red even more when I was younger. Here's my list, not including ones you already bolded:

I vaguely remember reading:
Summer of My German Soldier
There's a Boy in the Girls Bathroom
Island of the Blue Dolphins

I clearly remember reading:
Maniac McGee
Where the Red Fern Grows
Bridge to Terabithia

I feel comfortable saying I know:Treasure Island ( ... )

There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom is Louis Sachar's second best work (right after the Sideways Stories from Wayside School series.) Forget COMPLETELY about Holes. Seriously. Holes has nothing compared to the character and charm of these stories. Lots of fun, very engaging to kids of most ages (at least for readers who aren't too cool to read about loner kids...) It's very enjoyable... and encouraging, if not strictly educational... I mean, it's not a historical fiction book that does... whatever those do. I'd say if you have spare time, read Boy in the Girl's Bathroom and AT LEAST keep your room stocked with Wayside stories because they're episodic and freaking delightful ( ... )

Oh man. I've read Treasure Island, There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom, Where the Red Fern Grows, and Indian in the Cupboard. However, the only thing I remember about these in any detail is the Indian in the Cupboard movie. I remember just loving it! So really, my review is no help, because there's basically no review at all. I read these books a long time ago. In fact, I can hardly remember what I did myself at that point in time.

In the Unsettling of America, Wendell Berry gives a sort of review of the Illiad, and makes it seem like it would be a very hard read. It probably is, but I'm more interested in reading it since reading Wendell Berry's book.

Alvin and Leen, thank you very much for your responses, your reviews helped me a bunch and i already started reading "There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom" because it seems like a childrens classic that I somehow missed out in in childhood.

Neal, thanks for your comment...? It wasn't really a review... :)

i read and loved treasure island and island of the blue dolphins. i first read island of the blue dolphins in 4th grade, but my class read it in 6th grade. the outsiders is a great great book, but more for junior high (i think we read it in 8th grade?) because there is some gang violence. Also, we read Where the Red Fern Grows in 4th or 5th grade, and I highly highly recommend it... it's the one book from elementary that I remember the most.
good luck,
piper
