I'd argue that it's human nature to change behavior situationally. It's not always 'lying' so much as a necessary part of coexistance. It's that element of continuity between your diverse self that's really what it's all about.

Or, looking to Buddhism, we can note two things. First, there is no real 'you'. What you see as 'you' is nothing but a construct resutling from your attachments and suffering. Second, living by 'lying' is nothing more than being a slave to attachments. As is trying to live without 'lying'. The buddha would argue that you have to move past that duality of authentic/artificial if you truly want to be.
