Revised Background Rory Williams grew up in the village of Leadworth, a very very small place where you can just about walk the entire village in about fifteen to twenty minutes and just about everyone in the village knows every bit of your business. He grew up right next door to his childhood friend, Amelia Pond and while they were growing up, she would tell him stories about the Raggedy Doctor, and basically make him dress up as the Doctor so they could have "adventures" and play games based on the stories she would make up and the cartoons that she would draw. Like everyone else in their lives, Rory assumed that the doctor was a figment of Amelia's over-stimulated imagination

Of course, The Doctor saves the day. That's what he does, he's The Doctor. Not that Rory entirely knows what that means, not really. Not yet. But Amy and Rory help as well, evacuating the hospital and 'trapping' the prisoner in the coma ward.
And Rory's blackberry full of patient photos proves integral to saving the world. And it's nice, you know. To save the world.
Just as quickly as he came, the Doctor leaves. Amy is upset by this, and Rory doesn't pretend that he doesn't notice this. But they don't really discuss it much either. Not proper dating conversation, is it? And they do continue to date, and eventually this becomes Rory asking her to marry him.
And she says yes
The Doctor leaves, of course, and over the next two years Rory and Amy continued to date. This culiminated in him asking her to marry him. And she said yes. And he was happy about that. Really happy about that
( ... )
He read about people and their adventures with The Doctor. He read about people who had never returned from their adventures with The Doctor, people who had returned and hadn't been better for it. And people who had been. He didn't like it. He didn't really trust it
( ... )
Rory was not, however, totally sure that Amy wanted to be with him over the Doctor. It was not exactly a secret that Amy was at least somewhat attracted to the time lord, and that bothered Rory. A lot. He'd never been one for thinking highly of himself, so this was not exactly helping
