Yuletide jealousy

I didn't sign up for Yuletide this year - an intentional decision, not an accident - but I still have the comm on my friends page and all the squee is making me jealous :( Plus, no tailored Christmas present for me this year. I hope at least one or two of the stories that do get written appeal to me!

One day - one day - I'd like to have enough confidence in my ability to write reliably and to a deadline that I can sign up for a BigBang, or a fic exchange, or something. Writing, and fandom generally, is so much more satisfying - and fun! - when you have that personal interaction.

I love that advice, especially numbers 1 and 2.

As far as advice given to me, I really can't think of anything. Advice that I've always loved (and completely failed to keep) was something that Terry Pratchett once said with regard to writing: "write fast, edit hard". I'm good at the second part of that, not so much with the first :/

I think fic exchanges (especially really community based ones like Yuletide) are one of the few ways that interactive fandom has really survived on LJ. They're great fun to be involved in, but yes - stressful.

The personal interaction afforded by fic is one of my favourite things about it. I love that kind of conversation over time with the author and with other readers... yeah, I should actually take part in it more.

That's good advice, actually. I think most good advice is commonsensical, but gives you a new perspective or motivation.
