Summary: No one ever really knew who Jaejoong was. Not until he met them. Now trading sunlight for moonlight, he and his lover must face their true reality.

Prologue

For Kim Jaejoong, today was just another boring day, just like always. Going to school, work, then coming back home, everyday, the same thing, he always wondered, was this ever going to change? ‘Please, I wish that these days of endless boredom come to an end.’

What he didn’t know was, this was going to be that last day of his endless boredom.

Just like every morning, he was walking to his school. Yes- walking. He could use a car, but it would be very expensive and his parents had passed on. In the morning, when going to school, he would use the usual road for school, walking down the big avenue then turning right, but in the evening when he was coming back, he would use a shortcut.

He bowed to the bakery owner, just like always, smiling a little. He passed the school gate and soon Jaejoong could hear laughter and loud whispers, talking about what they did last night or gossiping about the newest celebrities scandals. However, he didn’t share the same joy that all the rest of the school had. He could not understand how these people could be excited like this, sharing secrets and trusting one another blindly.

When he entered the classroom, no one seemed to notice Jaejoong. Not that he minded, of course. Jaejoong was used to it, grateful almost. He sat at his usual spot, at the back of the class beside the window. He waited for the teacher to come, silently, looking out of the window.

Not long after, the teacher came. She was a middle aged woman, with medium curly hair, she was an easy going person, not that Jaejoong really cared. When the class noticed her, it became almost silent. Almost, because one of the girls whispering something about the latest fashion and make up trends hadn’t stopped. The teacher took her folder out and started calling out their names, scribbling down on the paper if they were present or not.

“Kim Junsu” A moment of silence. “Kim Junsu, is he absent again?” the teacher asked the obvious, that guy was never in class,

“Yes” a shy reply could be heard and the teacher just continued calling their names “Kim Jaejoong”

“Present” Jaejoong quickly replied, eyes were drawn to him and a few whispers could be heard, nothing that Jaejoong wasn’t used to. He was called a freak or a nerd everyday.

But the interesting thing was Kim Junsu. The happy bubbly teenager that was never in classes. You might ask how did Jaejoong know that Junsu was happy and bubbly? Because he was here in the first week of classes, and Junsu was the only one that dared to talk to Jaejoong. After that there were rumours that he met an older guy that led him the wrong way, and after meeting the older guy he hardly ever came to school. But Jaejoong didn’t believe it, for him Junsu was too pure to be on the wrong path.

Jaejoong looked at the teacher again, who was writing something on the white board. For Jaejoong, the words that the teacher was writing down were just like the same of yesterday, and the day before, but he knew that every day, they would get a different lesson, so, wasting no time, Jaejoong started to write on his notebook.

After what seemed to be endless hours of lectures, lunch time was finally here. Most of the students would jump from joy, but for Jaejoong, it was the worst part of his school life. Lunch time. Inside the classroom, there was constant discipline from the teachers, not letting the other students to do anything. During lunch time though, there were no teachers, and Jaejoong was always a victim for bullies.

Usually he would grab his lunch box, dash to the rooftop and lock the door, but today he needed to go to the bathroom really, really badly. He walked to the bathroom and entered the first stall available before locking it, there was no one in the bathroom, since it was on the third floor and the cafeteria was on first floor. Jaejoong flushed the toilet and walked out from the stall.

He was washing his hands when he heard the door open and some unpleasant students come in. “Look, look what we have here, Kim Jaejoong, girly face, long time no see” It was Jiyong. A guy with weird hairstyle that preferred to be called G-Dragon, and of course the rest of his gang, TOP, Daesung, Taeyang and Seungri, were together with him.

“Hey guys, I’ve heard that it’s healthy to do some exercises before eating” Taeyang said, while showing his grin and cracking his knuckles. “And since we’re healthy boys, let’s do some exercises. Don’t worry girly face, you’re only going to help us” Before Taeyang could even finish talking the five of them launched towards Jaejoong, throwing kicks and punches over the poor boy.

It didn’t last long, but since it was five against one, Jaejoong still had a lot of injuries. “Bye, girly face. See you next time.” Why did they insist in calling Jaejoong girly face? Yes-he does have a girly face, but that doesn’t mean they should pick on him so much.

Jaejoong leaned against the sink, checking for bruises or scratches in the mirror. When he was checking his face he found a minor cut on the side of his lip. The blood was there, but it wasn’t dripping, which was good. Jaejoong looked at his reflection in the mirror again. His skin was pale, like porcelain. His eyes were too big like a doe’s, his nose too delicate and his lips with too much of a pout to be a guy’s.
Those were facial features of a girl.

If he was just girly, then it wouldn’t be a problem. The problem lay in the fact that he was more beautiful than the girls in school. If he wasn’t such a loner Jaejoong was sure that he would get at least one love confession a month. Sighing, Jaejoong walked out of the bathroom to the empty corridor, it was very quiet, but Jaejoong was hearing soft murmurs behind him, they were creepy but loving at the same time.

‘Haha, Jaejoong you’ve gone insane. What is creepy and loving at the same time?’ Jaejoong walked to his classroom then his seat. He grabbed his bag harshly, opened the first pocket and pulled out a band-aid. He put it on the cut near the lips and walked to the front of the class to the garbage can, when he had a sensation that, someone, or something was watching him. There was no one in the classroom and the door was closed.

Ignoring it, he sat down in his seat, and started reading the first book that he could find. After a few minutes, Jaejoong was sure that he was being watched. He could feel the person’s eyes burn holes onto his uniform. He didn’t even have time to shake the feeling away when he felt his hair being touched. As soon as he felt that he immediately whipped his head around, only to be greeted by a boring white wall.

‘Strange, I’m was sure that someone was touching my hair’ He thought.

When he turned back to face his seat, the bell rang announcing the end of the lunch. Jaejoong hadn’t eaten anything, so now he would be hearing his own stomach calling for food for the rest of classes. Mind going back to the strange person who was watching him, and eh wondered just who that person was? How did Jaejoong even know that it was a person? Whatever touched Jaejoong, was big and warm… just like a hand, and Jaejoong welcomed it strangely, whatever it was.

Maybe someone was watching him through the window? But it was the third floor, and someone couldn’t possibly fly up, right? Maybe it was a ghost?

‘God Jaejoong, ghosts don’t even exist. Now you’re officially insane’ Laughing at his own antics. He started paying attention on whatever the teacher was saying now that class had began.

For Jaejoong, classes ended quite early, not that he minded, now he would be able to eat something without having to run to work. He bought some cream bread and an ice tea and started eating while walking to work. Jaejoong worked in a coffee shop near the school, but no one at school would go there. They said that it was too off, they would prefer going to the karaoke or the arcade.

But Jaejoong liked the coffee shop. It had a European feel and a very beautiful garden in the back for those who would want to breathe fresh air. When he entered the shop, he greeted the cashier and went to the changing room. He went to his locker and started to change, a typical uniform for waiters. Jaejoong put his school bag in the locker, not bothering to lock it, since he knew that the workers on the shop wouldn’t dare to rob him. They appreciated this job, they really did since most of the workers were high school students, just like him.

Jaejoong walked around the room, waiting for anyone that wanted to make an order. The coffee shop was pretty busy today, with lots of other waiters walking around. When he was walking towards a costumer he heard a voice calling him “Jaejoong! Go upstairs I’ll take care of it here!”

Upstairs was a place that Jaejoong feared. Not that mafia bosses would have meetings there or something, but up there was for people who had money, and lots of it.

Everything was more beautiful upstairs, and more expensive. Being the clumsy person that Jaejoong was, he could trip on his own feet, hit his head on something and break his arm. He was just that clumsy. If he breaks something from upstairs he would be charged, and even working his entire life wouldn’t be enough to pay the damage.

So Jaejoong climbed the stairs carefully, holding his pen and note pad at one hand, the other holding the stair rail firmly. The room was full, but not as full as it was downstairs. There was another waitress there, who quickly instructed Jaejoong to take the others from the right side of the room.

He walked around the room and saw a hand waving to him. It was a young man, maybe in his mid twenties, and he had another person leaning on him. ‘Probably his lover’ Jaejoong thought. Thinking that the man was ready to order, he walked closer to his table. As he neared he noticed that the man was just staring at him

“Sir? May I take your order?” Jaejoong asked in a polite, waiter tone, but the man ignored him, shook the man that was leaned against him and said:

“Su-ah, look. It’s the boy that Yunho has been talking about.”

The man that was leaned on his lover raised his head and ‘Oh my God, it’s Kim Junsu, so he did find an older guy!’

Kim Junsu stared at Jaejoong, and started smiling. “You’re Kim Jaejoong right? We want a piece of cheesecake and two cups of cappuccino please.” ‘He remembered me! What should I do?’ Jaejoong thought while writing down the order. When he turned to leave he could hear Kim Junsu say “Chunnie, tomorrow I’ll go to school” Jaejoong knew that Junsu wasn’t lying about going to school.

After his shift ended Jaejoong changed his clothes back into his school uniform and walked down the same street he’s been everyday. Since it was already 6:30PM, so the sky was darkening and the lights at the shops were starting to be turned on, one by one. Turning left, Jaejoong walked towards his shortcut, the only light that he had being the twilight’s orange light.

That street had street lights just like any other street, but they were broken. The ones that weren’t that broken were only blinking rapidly. Jaejoong walked calmly on the street, not worrying about fellow gangsters, since he walked this street everyday and he didn’t meet anyone every single day.

Near the end of the street there was a gigantic old mansion, probably abandoned. It was old, yes, probably with rumours of being haunted, but to Jaejoong the house held a warm welcoming feeling. He didn’t even notice that he had stopped to admire the mansion, body facing the front door of the house. Suddendly he had a sensation of being watched again, but this time not from the back, but from the front, from where the mansion stood.

Shaking that creepy feeling off, he ran the rest of the way to his house, quickly opened the door and entered. He prepared something quick to eat, took a bath and was already ready to sleep. As he laid down on his bed, he had a feeling of someone watching him again, but this time he didn’t bother confirming if the feeling was real.

The presence of that person was warm and gave Jaejoong a feeling of being protected. Jaejoong felt a cool feeling then he saw the curtains dancing, it was the wind that was making the curtain dance and him feel cool, the window was open.

After that, Jaejoong closed his eyes and fell asleep.
