1. I started my livejournal after my miscarriage because I needed somewhere to vent. I quickly realised that I enjoyed reading about other people's lives and sharing mine too so now I use it as a general journal to talk about day to day life, vent and get advice ( ... )

This is fantastic! :) Just a follow up on two things:
1.) What communities are you most interested in? Why did you choose to follow them?
2.) Do you think livejournal has become geared too much towards communities?

Some of my favorite communities are periodpieces, adayinmylife, ourbedrooms, and cooking. I like following them because it's a great way to pass the time for one thing, and for communities like periodpieces it's just awesome to be able to converse with people with similar interests (also, free movie downloads). What I like most about lj communities though is the fact that it really does bring together people from all around the world. Ex: It's pretty awesome to experience adiml of a person from Scotland or Taiwan!

I believe livejournal started out very much as a community-based, journal-styled forum--which is why it never quite caught on to the "blogging" wind I think. But I find that it's a nicer than say similar sites like tumblr, which is kind of chaotic and overwhelming sometimes. Tumblr is like livejournal communities for individuals with ADHD imo. Anyways, that is besides the point, I personally don't believe LJ has geared too much towards communities to the point of exclusiveness.
