I've been taking advantage of free wireless internet in the city to research graduate schools. I'm looking at programs in Library and Information Science because, of course, that's what I want to do. I want to do distance learning because I really don't want to go back to school in person. So I've basically narrowed it down to like 7 schools, and ( Read more... )

I'd go Valdosta State. The name on the degree at this point (since you already have another Masters from UGA anyway) is really not all that important. I think the only professions that really look at the name on the school are medical, hard science, or law... but of course I could be wrong... But you asked for it, so that's my opinion!

I'm thinking I'm with you--somebody made a very good argument in pointing out that if I'm not planning on ever getting a doctorate (which I'm not), then who cares about the name?

Plus the program at Valdosta has a surprisingly good website. If I were just going to a normal, on-site program, then I wouldn't care so much, but how am I gonna do an online program at a school with a shitty website? Come on!

Yeah, I was thinking about the PhD thing too. Plus where you might really want to work. Its not like its a completely nothing school and unaccredited. The fact that it is accredited should be good enough to get you whatever job you want with that. How much different could the coursework for the field really be from school to school anyway? Except for cheaper! And not in debt is always a plus!

Seriously! Especially since I'm not planning on getting any jobs that will make me rich in the near future...or ever. Why accumulate more debt?

Now, do you think it's a pretty safe bet to only apply to Valdosta? I mean, I meet all the requirements, no question...they should accept me, right?
