So, I now know where I am going, when I am going, and what I'll be doing. When people ask me if I have started looking for a job yet, I can say "sure! I'm moving to the Dominican Republic to work in community health!" instead of just saying "Nope!" and then smiling serenely as they give me that confused/disturbed/condescending/pity look. I actutally listed the same con as you did, in the event that the Dominican Republic was an option. It's so close to Miami--my family lives there! And my mother's partner is from there and visits DR often.

Aside from that, like you said, the pros will far outweigh the cons. Once you get there, i'm sure America will seem like a world away :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one! But I realized that even if the pros didn't outweigh the cons, that's still not a particularly valid reason to turn down an invite! Luckily for me I am HUGELY excited about the country! Let me know if your mom's partner has any tips ;-).
