(OOC: This is when Gai was about 25 or 26; Neji & Co. would definitely be able to recognize that he was teaching them by that point.)
Nature had outdone itself again, bending over backwards in its effort to oblige him in his hopes for a gorgeous night. The sunset was a glorious blaze of reds and golds stretching across the sky, long brushstrokes of clouds tinted by its molten gradient as the sun sank lower and lower, dimming and warming to a lustrous red. "Have you ever seen such a beautiful sunset, Gai-san?"
"Never!" Gai shook his head almost immediately, turning to take his date in with an appreciative eye. "I've never seen a sunset with you, after all." Her skin glowed almost bronze as the evening light curved over a long neck, caressed the dip of a shoulder, spilled ruddy down an elegant pair of breasts. It gilded long raven hair with red as it tumbled down her back and eddied around her waist, made liquid-honey eyes come alive as they danced with the fading summer sun. She was beautiful. The sky was beautiful. They were only made even more beautiful by being put together; she glowed like an ember, and Gai put an arm around her waist as she laughed. (She was warm with the candlelight and the setting sun and the champagne that fizzed away in delicate glasses. She was flushed with life and joy and beauty, both without and within, and Gai just wanted to drink her up, take her into his heart to hold this moment for a lifetime, because it was beautiful.)
She leaned into his arms and nestled against his chest, mellow and affectionate and so alive, and they laughed together and tried to pick out every color in the sunset, tried to guess at the shapes in the clouds. The candles burned on, and the lake shimmered red-gold as it mirrored the sky, slowly darkening as the sun crept lower; the air grew cooler as night crept in on velvet feet, carried on a whiff of perfume from the bouquet of roses that lay on the blanket beside them. (Fishnet and blues and purples, dusk-dark colors wrapped around the flame of her youthful vitality, letting her melt seamlessly into the night as it folded her into its arms. She could fade away altogether with the dying light, leave him holding only air, with the sound of bell-like laughter still ringing in his ears. But she would not, because this night was for them both, and they could not share it by being alone.)
"Gai-san, this is wonderful.... Did you cook it yourself?"
"I did." Gai agreed, eyes twinkling with something like mischief, an enthusiastically playful look that went straight to the heart. "And I hope that it's even half as sweet as you." He leaned in to steal a kiss, and she swatted him on the shoulder, but let him do it anyway; her lips and tongue were wet and pliant, full of the honey-rich flavor of apple pie. They were hungry, both of them, though he had cooked more than enough for a full meal for two. His hands were strong and firm between her shoulder blades and curving over her cheek, and he could feel long nails grazing over his shoulder and through his hair. Their bodies pressed together, and they were hungry for the intimacy and affection that came from being recklessly, joyfully in love, from knowing that what they were sharing now meant everything and nothing, all at once.
(They loved each other, Gai knew, because he loved her the way he loved everyone whose lives he got to touch, the way he loved each and every heart that came to beat in sync with his own, however briefly. As short and painful as their lives could be, they all needed a little love brought into them, a little compassion to make their passion more gentle and sweet, a little common humanity to cherish during those times it seemed like they could lose themselves for good. He loved her because he loved the world, and she loved him for it.)
They talked about the future, and they talked about hopes and dreams, and they talked about wishes and promises. The candles burned down to glossy pools of molten wax, and they talked about life and love, how beautiful they both can be, how fleeting and eternal; the moon rose, and the stars came out one by one. They looked for constellations as long, strong fingers worked their way over her shoulders and neck, trailing down along her back and spine; her eyes were half-closed, all but melting into Gai's touch as he massaged the tension out of her. (She was so small and soft under his hands, all long, flowing curves and velvet-bronze expanses, deliciously smooth and deceptively fragile; it felt like one wrong move might break her. And he was glad for it, glad for the excuse to be gentle and tender, because his training had always been used to make people break--it was an honor and a privilege to use it for good sometimes, to make people sigh and moan and squirm with his touch.) Her voice was a breathy murmur, whispered through the night; they had forgotten their formality long ago. "Do you think the stars are all there are?"
"Of course not." Gai's voice was softer now, more intimate; he pressed a kiss against the back of her neck that made her shiver, the hands under her shirt working their way to her sides. "Beyond them is Heaven, don't you remember? Maybe you could fly us back up to see it, angel.... We could dance atop the clouds."
She tilted her head back to look at him, long hair a cascade of silk over one shoulder as she smiled. "You're too much, you know that?"
Gai smiled in return, and leaned down to kiss her upturned mouth, hands moving to skim over her stomach and caress her breasts. "I like to think I'm just enough."
She gasped prettily into his mouth, and he deepened the kiss; she wound her arms back around his neck, and it turned torrid quickly. Their clothes melted away as he had thought she might, carried off in whorls of green and blue-violet mist that swirled around them and snuffed the dying candle flames completely.
[Gai only half wakes up, groggy and looking far too pleased with himself. He sighs happily and rolls over, ignoring the Hitomi still recording him as he goes back to sleep; anyone who continues to watch will get returned to the dream and get to experience a nice, full-length, sickeningly sweet sex dream between Gai and the kunoichi.]
[....And just for the record, this dream does definitively show just how "youthful" Gai's Most Youthful Endowment really is.]
